Nice quality Maverick Probes!
I love to BBQ and these work great in my smoker. They see a lot of use here and I generally get about 12-18 months worth of use out of a probe. The first couple I had didn't last very long because I did not know that they cannot be submerged in water. After I read a warning about doing that here on Amazon I started cleaning them with just a damp towel and now they last. I had bought some other probes here on Amazon but they had a smaller diameter wire lead on them. When I got these I was happy to see that these have the larger gauge lead. Not sure if that makes them sturdier or not but at least they look beefy!

Great customer service offered important advice for using probe in BBQ
I bought this replacement probe to use with my Redi-Chek Maverick ET-72. The original probe failed with an "HHH" reading on the transmitter.Like most of the people writing reviews, my problem occurred when using the probe in a BBQ. After this replacement probe failed on the fourth use in my BBQ, I called Maverick for advice. They observed that exposure to direct flame in a BBQ can raise the temperature of the braid (holding the temperature sensor's two wires) above the melting point of the wires' insulation. They recommended that I protect the braid either by (a) wrapping it with aluminum foil or (b) threading the probe through yet another braid. Both approaches serve to protect the wires from the extreme heat caused by flames (that you won't get in a conventional oven). I found suitable braid on Amazon; search for "copper braid".They mentioned that the other danger from BBQs is that the wire can be pinched when the BBQ lid is closed. The insulation of the wires is more susceptible to shorting when pinched at high temperatures. It was great customer service. Unlike poor customer service (e.g. that offered by GE Monogram) where reps are entirely incapable of holding a conversation about problems with the product and their possible causes, the NJ-based Maverick tech support person was smart and articulate...and very, very helpful. I will only buy Maverick brand thermometers in the future. I recommend that you do the same.FOLLOWING IS WHAT I FOUND ON THE MAVERICK WEB SITE:Should any problems be experienced, or repairs or servicing be required:1. Replacement probe for Maverick ET-7
I used the new probes as soon as I received them, smoked a pork butt for pulled pork. They are not as prone to curling up as the originals, but they are no way 3 feet long, just a hair over 30 inches. They worked fine on the smoker but it appears they would bedifficult to use in the oven because of their length; the Maverick would have to be placedon the stove top and would be in the way if you wanted to use the burners. Didn't havethat problem with the originals, they're 42 inches long.

Works as a replacement TC for my meat thermometer
I have an older wireless (besides the thermocouple) meat thermometer, my old TC probe became defective after the years and needed a replacement. Most TC probes offered won't work accurately on my setup but after doing some research I found this is one that is compatible. Works great and back in business.

They did not work
I used this product for a macerick meat theometer. one prob quit after a few uses the other prob is a smoker prob. doesn't work well with Steak. The model number of the meat theometer is ET-7. I understand the ET 71, ET 73 Probes will work with this meat theometer.

5 Stars
I've owned and loved the ET-73 for a year and a half now. I've gotten the HHH error code on the food probe before and I usually just had to push the jack in really hard. Well this time I couldn't get it to go away so I ordered the replacement probe and all is working again!!I've seen bad reviews on the probes not lasting very long. But as I said, my first one lasted a year and a half and I already have over 70 hours on the replacement. Just take a little care and it will last you a while. Be careful when washing to not submerge the wire under water and also be careful when closing the lid to your grill. I think I broke my first one when the lid slammed shut and pinched the cable.

Great replacement unit
I received an electronic grilling thermometer for Christmas several years ago, and it has worked great for me for a long time. But one of the two probes that came with the unit stopped working, and it was clear the second one wasn't far off, so finding this replacement probe was fortuitous. It works great with my thermometer, I don't note any difference in operation between it and the original.

Wish they lasted longer
It works like it is supposed to but, these things wear out pretty quickly even if you are careful. It is a good idea to keep a spare.
