Q: Will it work when the wifi/internet is down?

Yes, it does. It is battery operated so it can still read the chips. You will not be able to access it with the app, nor will it send you notifications. Basic use of the door and its settings are fully operational.

Q: Does it have a stay-open mode? I want to lock it when I leave and open it a few minutes later.

Yes, that is an option. You can manually do it on the app or set it up by a timer in the app to lock and unlock at certain times.

Q: Where would be the best place to have the microchip inserted on our new pup in order for him to best operate this door?

I think the standard place & best place is the same - at the shoulder blades. The dog will lead into the pet door head first, but there isn't really a better place for a microchip before the shoulders. You will have to train your dog to get close, pause for the click and then enter.

Q: Can you double lock to prevent pets coming in or going out?

Yes. You have 3 options: Keep pets in: If they are in, they can't go out. If they are out, they can come in but can't go back out. Keep pets out: If they are out , they can't come in. If they are in, they can go out but can't come back in. Lock both ways: The door is locked. The pets are locked in or out, wherever they are when the door locks.
