I was having a problem with possums eating my "naked" seed bells. I got the cage, and it prevents the possums from getting to the seeds, but the birds can get it easily. (Now I know that the purists out there will say that possums are native to Australia, and that we have oppossums in the US. Well, in Texas we call 'em possums.)

I have been feeding my backyard birds for several years now and one thing I can tell you is you must outsmart the squirrels. This bell shaped cage is a perfect fit for the bell shaped seed blocks and the squirrels can't gnaw through the plastic hanging loop on top of the seed block and steal the whole thing, the squirrels still find it but you can run them off

My bird visitors really liked the seed bell holder but I had to wire it shut to keep squirrels from opening it! Who knew they are so clever.

This protects the seed bell from squirrels, but needs extra help to stay latched.

It didn’t latch good and would come undone from time to time, and I had already put it out (because I was going out of town and wanted the birds to have the bell to feed on) and I had thrown away the packaging so I couldn’t return it for a replacement. I was going to request a new one thinking that maybe the one I had was defective, however I did not have the option to do that anymore.

This is really neat, and our birds love it. Before we were just hanging the seed bell itself and the birds had nothing to grab on to. This has solved that problem. The only negative is that the heavy bell has fallen out of the cage. We had to manipulate the catch somewhat to prevent that from happening again.

Save your money. Bottom does not stay shut and feed bell falls to the ground which becomes dog food.
