Q: Is the wire strong enough to keep a cat out?

The wire should be sturdy enough to keep the cat out. We leave out hutch open all day and our cats go in and out playing with bunnies

Q: What kind of waterers do you use with this cage? The hanging bottles we have seem too heavy for the mesh wire.

we do use the usual hanging bottles for water in our hutch and so far the mesh wire is holding true. however we also use a plastic food/water bowl that we hang in the wire mesh of the upper level door. You can get it from Amazon ( 5" x 3 3/4" x 4" CalPalmy Food and Water Bowl for Rabbit) and our rabbits love drinking from it too. You will have to re-fill it more often than the bottle though.

Q: Is there a metal or mesh surface on the bottom of this cage that they would be standing on

It is a sold plastic vase they will be standing on. Easily washable.
