Good Earplug Hearing Protection
This review is for Howard Leight by Honeywell SmartFit Corded Reusable Shooting Earplugs, 2-Pairs (R-01520), Orange with Blue. I purchased these because I was looking for earplugs that were easy to insert, didn't require time to expand in ear canal (foam ones take time to expand), and had a fabric cord. This was the only one that I found that matched those criteria. The plugs are good quality, and I like the fabric cord. They do a decent job at sound reduction, but 25 NRR is on the entry level side of noise reduction. I have only used these in conjunction with earmuffs. They do fit with earmuffs, but only if you have the earplugs fully seated. If you don't have them fully seated the earmuffs will push on the stems, and it will be uncomfortable. One of the things that I like with this style of earplug is the three separate seals. In order to get the full sound reduction all three need to be properly seated, but at least if one or two are you still getting some sound protection. These seem fairly durable and are easy to clean. The case only fits one pair, and I would have preferred two cases so that I could bring both earplugs, say for two people. On a side note, make sure to follow the directions on the pack of the packaging to get maximum hearing protection. It makes a big difference to insert these earplugs while pulling your ear back.

Great Product
Being a day sleeper these ear plugs, after trying other brands, are perfect to drown noises (I sleep through the construction going on next door wearing them) while still being able to hear the phone ring. They last longer than other brands. I tie a knot on one side to distinguish right from left ear so each plug gives a better fit. After a month I'm still wearing my first pair. I'll definitely buy again!

Not great for sleeping
Context: I'm using these while sleeping. These earplugs took the edge off most noises such as train horns and voices. Lower frequency sounds seem to get through more easily. They are pretty easy to get in unlike some disposable earplugs - - I have relatively small ear canals. However after a night of sleeping my ears tended to ache a little. I think if they came in a smaller size that would help. The shaft which sticks out of the plug for easy removal is convenient and did not cause an issue when laying on a pillow (the material is pretty soft). All and all they seem great for their intended use but not so great for sleeping if you have small ear canals.

Great
I recently had a superior semicircular canal dehiscence repaired, and my hearing is very sensitive. I've also got permanent "loud noise hearing loss," and get migraines from high-pitched sounds, vibrations, and changes in humidity, so having a pair of quality ear plugs close at hand at all times of the day has become very important. These plugs fit my ear canal very well and stay put. The cord is good, because sometimes I will plug only one ear at the movies, and intermittently plug the other ear when the action scene sound effects ramp up. Without the cord, it's a pain to keep track of where the second ear plug is. I use them while working on the sewing machine and riding the subway as well. The one time I bought the less expensive drugstore brand, the yellow conical plugs were not big enough to form a seal. It makes a difference to have a plug with a triangular shape. These plugs come with a good clear plastic case for each set, so the cord doesn't get tangled up.
