4-piece Set, Pentel Pg1019g, 0.9mm Graph Gear 1000 Automatic Pencil

I finally found out the right hardness for the Graph Gear pencil that artist Tamara Laporte recommends and uses regularly in her work for sketching, so I decided to buy a set of replacement parts to go with it. This was an excellent value for a top notch mechanical pencil. I've been using the Graph Gear .5mm for about a year now and wouldn't want to use any other kind of mechanical pencil. It has spoiled me. This pencil is well-designed with a one-touch lead retraction feature at the head of its pocket clip, different colored bands around the lower half that coordinate with different lead sizes (it also says the lead size on the very tip top of the pencil in a matching color dot), and strong leads. I also love how it feels in my hand - the perfect weight to signify its quality and durability as well as feeling well-balanced while using it. Unless I lost it, I think this pencil would last me for life. I'm happy to have two different ones now and would highly recommend this pencil to anyone.

I'm was constantly breaking .5 mm pencil lead when every I used my mechanical pencils and when making rough marks on wood, forget it, the .5 mm pencils just don't cut it. (I just don't have the finesse and simply press down too hard.) More often than not the lead breaks. This pencil leaves a nice line that is easy to see and the thicker lead is harder to break. I don't recommend this pencil for precise layouts because the line is a bit too thick for exacting cuts, but I've been able to saw out the line with relatively good results. (for really accurate results, I use a knife). One thing I really love about this pencil is how easy it is to click the lead into the body preventing it from breaking when not in use.

One MAJOR flaw. Despite all the metal, the top of the barrel connects to the bottom with a fragile plastic collar and sleeve. Mine fell once on concrete and snapped at the plastic threads. Absolutely not worth the money. If they fixed that, then I would have no complaint.

I bought this pencil for my woodworking shop and I love it. I have used several other brands of automatic pencils and the Pentel 1000 outperforms them all. The 9mm size will fit the holes on all Woodpecker rules and the 5mm will fit all Incra rulers (I ordered both). The positive click stop that dispenses the lead works perfect and gives you just the right amount of new lead. I also love the replacement lead that comes with the pencil, it doesn't break off when I insert it into a ruler and draw a long trace line down a board, unlike every other pencil lead I've tried that always breaks. When done, the click release draws the lead right back up into the pencil which is another awesome feature.

honestly its not much of a big deal to most people but i got a little white eraser instead of the black one shown. i already have a three or four pack of the same bigger white erasers and was kind of looking forward to the little black erase because i would have actually used it for school and replaced the big eraser i'm already using but instead i just put the little eraser away and kept it in its plastic until i lose my current eraser or it runs out. Either ways i give this 4 out of five because the pencil is great but they need to stay true to picture. everything else was perfect just don't expect to get a black eraser.

For the price you would expect better. A papermate is much better and less than half the price
