Would you suggest this lens OR a prime (35mm) over this lens for landscape photos?

Hi Adam - It really depends on your style of working. If you prefer fixed length lenses then stay with the 35mm and other primes. I would suggest that if you like prime lenses that you look at getting a 18mm (or thereabouts) for landscapes. The 35mm may be a little too tight. I have a Sigma 30mm which is a great lens, but I don't use it for landscapes. I use it to copy my wife's artwork and for street photography. The 17-70mm is a very versatile lens which copes well with a wide range of subjects. If I was still doing wedding photography then this lens would be my go-to lens. Being slightly faster it is really well suited for portraits as well. In low light portraiture it can be difficult to check composition and focus but the extra brightness of the faster lens does help. It is very suitable for landscapes.

Is this lens good for macro?

Hi Dave. Its OK but not what you might call a true Macro lens. I find it useful when out and about to get in close to flora and fauna. It is only 1:5.8 down to1:2.8 so not real Macro at 1:1 and if I was going to practice Macro photography seriously I would buy a dedicated Macro lens. Other wise this is a cracking lens which I use for Reportage and general photography. Hope this helps.

is this lens 100% compatible with the d3200

I've used it with the D300s and the D7100 and it's fine. I'd check the spec on the lens re whether it requires the camera to have a motor to drive the lens autofocus just in case

Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D40?
