Yes, I thrilled to these as a kid watching them on our black & white tv. How would they hold up decades later? Way beyond my expectations! The love between Tarzan and Jane has never been anywhere close to the chemistry of Weismuller and O’Sullivan. And when Boy is added, the love of family is exceptionally portrayed.In the ‘30’s, Weismuller had a fantastic primeval physique that truly fit Tarzan. He certainly looks like he could rule the jungle! Maureen O’Sullivan compliments him perfectly and is a true and equal partner to the Lord of the Jungle. At first, I was put off by Johnny Sheffield as he was just TOO precocious, but… by the end of Tarzan Finds a Son he’s completely won me over.And I haven’t even gotten into the action sequences. The fight with the crocodile is off the charts. The thing in the pit-Holy cow! Hand to fang combat with two lions in a row! And just the fantastic escarpment scenes. In short, these are the best Tarzans ever and what a price too. Highly recommended.

I had a previous collection of the original Tarzan movies which never worked well (the same collection is currently on sale on Amazon for $93.00). I just purchased this collection...works well, excellent restorations of 1930's movies, good quality picture and sound, and for $8.00 for the original movies you can't beat this.

The best

The films themselves are a must-see. The continuity between them is very solid, from recurring characters/actors to continual references to what took place previously, which remains relevant to an ongoing story arc--which very much plays like a TV mini-series, if you watch them back to back. The continuity of this series is superb. Unlike some filmmakers of the day, they were very careful about details lining up and not being forgotten. The third film shows signs of quality dropping off from the previous two VERY adult-oriented pre-Code films, as the series (post-Hays Code) turns more kid-friendly and campier, with a budget that was clearly tightening--forcing the filmmakers to seemingly build the plot around the need to recycle action scenes from the first two films. But even that aside, the stories remain fun and engaging--and the ongoing story arc keeps you coming back for more.As far as the DVD set itself, I'm somewhat disappointed. The picture and sound quality are fine. Warner Bros. is typically very good at putting out home media with quality picture and sound. However, this set presents the first four films out of order--which disrupts the series’ carefully catered continuity. These films MUST be viewed in proper chronological order to be fully understood. So, make sure you look up the proper order before viewing them, which is the release order. Fortunately, Volume 1 does contain the first four films released, but they are presented in the wrong viewing order. (Why?) Furthermore, between this volume (Volume 1) and Volume 2 (a separate set), four of the twelve Weissmuller Tarzan films are omitted. Warner Bros. previously released a two-volume set (which is hard and expensive to come by) which included all twelve Weissmuller films. These two volumes do not.

I understand these movies were made in thr 30s, but I had to turn the volume up on my TV to 80 to hear this. Just be aware.

Bought as a gift for my uncle who loved the old Tarzan movies. We both were happy.

Used to watch the weismueller tarzan films every Saturday night at 11 pm on tarzan theater with my parents. Loved these films and special times!
