We used this with iPhones. Just a note. We used this in Iceland and it fit in all the places we stayed. We found it did not fit most sockets in Italy - it fit in only a couple apartments. There isn't any indication that they will detach. It's depth was a big disadvantage.

Q: Dose this work as a converter for using us products such as a flat iron and charging an iphone - or do i still need a converter?

This is only a converter for the plug - converts the wall plug to US standard. The voltage is still 220v / 50Hz. Check your devices. Flat irons and cell phone chargers are often compatible with 120v to 240v 50 or 60 Hz. Look for tiny mice type on your devices that describe the allowed voltage range. The USB ports will work as normal.
