I always wear sun protection when outside hiking or trail running. I usually wear a ball cap with a neck skirt (draping fabric which hangs from the back of the hat). I decided to give a wide brim hat a try for hiking, walking only (wouldn't really work for running). After quite a bit of research, I selected this hat. It looks like a cowboy hat on my head. The brim is curved like a cowboy hat would be. That's not necessarily a bad thing just something very different for me. I wore the hat on a hike in Death Valley and it was comfortable and performed as expected. I do wish it had an optional neck skirt but I might be able to make my own. I only gave it 4 stars because of my own perception that it's out of place walking on a city trail/street AND it isn't waterproof. I actually bought a cowboy hat rain cover so I can use it in the rain when hiking in Europe next year. So far, I'm happy with the hat... let's see if I can get used to it.

Speedy delivery in 3 days! Arrived 3 days earlier than estimated. My great quality and construction (and low price) vinyl hat protector fit my sun hat perfectly. My hat crown is 4.5" H and 27.5" around the base of the crown. The 4" down-sloping brim is 23"L front to back over the crown, and 22.5"W side to side over the crown. Size X-Large fits beautifully, with 1-2" tucked under the brim. It does not pull my down-sloping brim out of shape. I don't know how it would work on up-turned brims. We are heading to Scotland and random rain showers. I plan to buy another.

Fit my 7 3/8" hat like a glove. Walked around in a light rain for about 2 1/2 hours. Hat was nice and dry.

I own an average sized Stetson cowboy style hat and ordered an xl. It is snug and has “warped” the shape of the hat. If there were an xxl, that would’ve been about a perfect fit. It does however keep the hat dry and clean in the strongest rain and snow.

I wear an extra large wool stetson from my old cavalry unit. This stetson has to be crushed in on itself 50% bigger than the cover in order to tuck it in and make it fit. It's not XL in size. When they say "XL", they mean your hat size. The part that wraps around your forehead. They totally expect your hat to have the smallest brim possible. This cover would maybe fit over a bowler and that's about it. And no one wears those anymore.It's also made in China and sold for 200% of market value. Seller forgot to remove the original factory bar code sticker. That's how I found out.
