Yes, this is for use before, during, and after the tattoo. I use mine for all three, it's a lot better than the tattoo butter I have.

Hello and thank you for your question. Purple Glide is mainly used during the tattoo process, but can also be used as an aftercare product during the healing period. A little bit of product goes a long way... and because Purple Glide goes on clear, it does enhance the clarity of your tattoos. Q: I ordered 2 of the 6oz Purple. One of the two had a loose lid and the seal was halfway lifted/pulled back, do I have anything to worry about?

Does it look like it was used? If not, you should be fine. If it looks like someone swiped their finger in it, I would return for a new one.
