Does this expansion allow you to play up to 6 players? Or does it just replace 2 of the characters from the base game?

According to the rules, it just replaces 2 of the characters from the base game. But practically, you can do whatever you want with the new characters. I quite often play 5-player using the Druid character from this expansion. The only problem in that case is that if players 1-4 gang up on player 5, player 5 will lose before they even get their first turn.
