My opinion is that this is mostly a novelty, but if you were to sharpen it very well, then it would have some advantages. 1. With it's sharp point, it is able to penetrate clothes and jackets while a regular knife might, or might not, penetrate as easily. 2. With the drill bit shape, if the edges are SHARP like a good drill bit, it will also more easily penetrate protective gear. 3. If the edges are all sharp, they will be cutting arteries and veins and organs as it goes in, and twisting will cause even more bleeding. A regular knife is HARD to twist once it is inside. Hollywood makes this look easy, but it is not. With this knife, twisting would be relatively easy. In closing, I think as a stabbing implement, this is very effective and can cause a LOT of bleeding, which is the primary method of death from a blade. There are many cases where a regular knife would likely be better. But this has its uses and certainly isn't junk, but you need to sharpen it up really well to make it useful.

Why does this "knife" look like a drill bit?

It's for show. No real applications other than it looks scary.

Does this violate the Geneva Convention? (Asking for a friend)

This is an easily debunkable Urban myth. In 1980, a provision was added to the Geneva Convention stating, the use of weapons which cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering are banned. Even though this addition was 60 years removed from the tri blade trench knife of World war I, people immediately thought that this meant it was illegal to use in combat. The story quickly evolved to it was always illegal to use after World war I. Although the triangular wound canal left by the WW I trench knife was a challenge for the poorly trained medics of World War I, it is not problematic for even a basic EMT of today. Therefore there is definitely no Geneva convention provision of this knife nor is it illegal as far as I know in any state in the us.

Is this piece suitable for throwing?

Yes but you need to be very good thrower; is a very heavy piece.
