DSL to Tablet Internet Connection Is Simplicity Itself
Since I have only a DSL connection (Ethernet RJ45) at home, I was looking for an alternative to having to go to a public WiFi location. One option would be to get a router, but that is more complicated. I wondered whether it would be possible just to connect the DSL Ethernet RJ45 to the Micro USB input on my Chromo Android 4.2.2. tablet. I read a lot of contradictory information about whether this was possible. However, I purchased one of these Smays connectors and everything worked perfectly! It is simplicity itself. Simply connected your DSL Ethernet RJ45 jack (male) into the Smays connector and plug the other end into the female Micro USB port on your tablet. There are only two simple requirements for this type of connection to work.1) Your Android tablet and its operating system must support an Ethernet connection. Some do, some don't. To check, go into the native Settings app on your Android and turn the "Wireless" option on. Under that option, select "More." Alternatives other than WiFi that are supported by your Android will be displayed. If "Ethernet" is included in that list, your tablet supports the simple kind of connection that I have described with the Smays adapter cable.2) You must have a female Micro USB port on your tablet. Almost all do. This port is used with a power cable to charge the tablet and with a USB/Micro USB adapter to exchange files between your tablet and your computer.Of course, when you have your DSL connection attached to the Smays adapter cable, it isn't attached to your computer. If you wanted both to be connected to the internet at the same time, you would have to use a router. An inexpensive router (Netgear seems to be the best) starts at $30 and involves some setup. So, if you want to be connected to the internet only occasionally to download files to your tablet (like TXT or PDF files to read, or MP3 files to listen to), the Smays adapter cable is an inexpensive and easy option.

Great solution for Pi Zeros
Pi Zero boards do not come with ethernet ports but has built in wireless. I try to minimize my reliance on wireless to keep bandwidth free for other devices if I can. I bought each of my Pi Zero one of these and have been impressed. My Pi run essential networking software so they run 24x7x365. These adapters do not get hot, do not go down or miss pings. Very reliable.

Amazon Fire tablets CAN NOT use these
I'm sure this is a fine product, but I just wanted to tell people that might be considering buying it to connect their Amazon Fire tablet to an ethernet cable, this won't work.It has nothing to do with this adapter, Amazon Fire tablets are simply not made to connect to ethernet thru their micro-USB port. It's a software issue, there are no USB or network drivers available for the Fire tablet to use. They are designed to connect to the internet thru WiFi only. Some first-generation Fires may have reportedly been able to do this, but the vast majority of them cannot. This adapter is designed for use with Android phones and regular Android tablets like Samsung etc., and for Amazon Firestick TV streaming devices, but NOT Amazon Fire tablets.

Works on Dell Venue 8 Pro, Nexus 7 & 9 not so much.
I brought this primarily for my Dell Venue 8 Pro and partially for my Nexus 7 2012 model. The DV8P works out of the box, plug it in, plug the CAT5 in and works. No problems and it's faster and way more secure than WiFi. There's nothing more to say about it: it just works. The Nexus 7 2012 however, is another story. Per XDA it's allegedly possible to get the Nexus 7 to recognize and use an ethernet connection, but I can't make it work despite following the XDA steps. My N7 isn't rooted and that may be the problem.I haven't tried this on my iPad 3 partially because I can't find an adapter or series of adapters from MicroUSB to a Female USB to then connect the 30 pin cable. The Android problem is almost certainty a software issue and my Nexus 7 is running Android 4.4.2. Windows 8.1 had no problems.I recently tried this on my Nexus 9 and while the adapter does initially light up, nothing happens. So 0 for 2 on two Android tablets, but 1 for 1 on a Windows tablet.

It kind of works.
My Wi-Fi is not that great so I bought this to use with my older Tab A. Initially it worked great but as time went by the USB connector starts to get wobbly and the connection to the internet becomes unstable. That's why I only gave it 3 stars.

Does nothing
I don't know what the manufacturer is thinking, but this product did nothing at all when hooked up to an ethernet cable and the device I was hoping to connect to the Internet.

Perfect for an RPi0
I wanted to try running Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi 0. Due to the size, the Pi doesn't have an onboard NIC and I didn't want something as important as DNS to rely on a wireless connection. So I ordered this adapter. Kind of uncommon to find a micro-USB to Ethernet. (USB A or C to Ethernet are more common.) I plugged it in, loaded Raspberry OS and was off and running. Easy install - it was detected automatically. Reliable - I've had it up and running for all my DNS/DHCP needs for a couple months now and I haven't had a second of downtime. Great product, great price.
