You don't need to possibly hurt yourself by scraping them with a blade to get the long sharp point. I use a different sharpener to sharpen my pencil for the first time or if it comes pretty sharpened. I still sharpen it for the way that I want. I then use the sharpeners for touchups and find points during my design and creating sessions. They work fantastic.

If you can get over the weird tip after the pencil is sharpened, I feel like this could be 5 stars. This pencil sharpener is for a "long tip," but the shape of the sharpened tip is rather odd. It does the job, but I can't say that I will use this very much because I just don't like how it looks. If you don't care about that, then you are good to go. It comes with two sharpeners, so that is a plus-a value for the price.

I bought this sharpener specifically to help with some troublesome Ritmo charcoal pencils that were (I assume) handled roughly before I bought them. They kept breaking when I tried to use an electric AFMAT sharpener. I was not disappointed as this little multi-stage manual sharpener did the trick. It required a gentle touch and a bit of patience but it worked. I was able to sharpen the charcoal pencils to have a long tip that I then use along the exposed edge to vary line weight and stroke density. I’m very happy with this sharpener and recommend it to others who do similar work. Great product!
