Does it go over the existing keyboard?

Yes -- it lays right over the keyboard. Make sure to select the keyboard skin that matches your Laptop model number. I can't say enough great things about this -- it keeps the dust out, it lays super flat, it has a nice feel to it and makes it easier (for me anyway) to type and it doesn't move around. Really, it's hard to tell that there is anything over top of the regular keyboard. . . I got the black one. But, for fun, I also got the pink/purple one and I switch them out just to shake things up in my little office. Yep, it's true -- accountants know how to have fun! hah!
