Do the S hooks just make the item hanging brace against the wall below so the walls just get scuffed and dirty?

Yes they do brace against the wall on the bottom. I put the handles down so it does not seem to be a huge problem with the “dirty” part up.

Can it be used in a metal shed?

Yep. Get self tapping zinc or stainless steel fasteners for metal, not wood. All big box have them. You'll just need to figure the size. Measure diameter and length you'll need and it'll zip right into metal. Assuming you mean a 1x1" steel tube which is standard for most metal storage buildings.

Can I use this outside?

I have mine outside. Seems fine.

How much weight will each segment hold and do they get mounted to studs?

Don't know how much weight it hold, but it easy holds all the hand tools I can hand on it. I mounted to the wood siding with 1 inch wood screws

Wall Mounted Wonder

Wonderful!

This solved our storage issues with lawn tools and two bicycles. We built a new shed but wanted to organize shovels, rakes and such. I built a 2x4 frame and installed the racks. Looks like a great solution!The racks seem sturdy, well built and are easy to use. Tools go in and out easily. Plenty of options with the all the hooks for various types of tools. The 2x4 frame makes tge racks very stable.I know the normal installation is for wall studs. Our shed doesn’t really have any so I made some.Enjoy!

Great design. The weight of the tools holds them in place. Very simple and very effective.

When I first recieved this item I almost returned it. The reason being, I thought it would come in one long strip but instead was 4 small ones. I needed them to mount to the studs in my garage. I simply bought an 8' 2x4 and screwed it to the studs. Then I mounted the tool holders to the 2x4. I love it. It easily holds garden tools and has hooks for other tools. I'm planning to buy more of these. Great design. The weight of the tools holds them in place. Very simple and very effective.

OK for Lighter Duty Uses

Feels pretty flimsy, thin metal. The hangers are also thin and the hooks for holding handles can pop out if you aren't careful. I think this will still work for lighter duty applications like mops/brooms/etc. But might not hold up as well with heavier tools/garden equipment.

When it says it holds 20 to 40lbs it wasnt lying. I have 2 in the garage holding yard tools but I have one on the stairs to the basement holding a vacuum and steamer. It's holding everything sturdy against the wall and has been for weeks. (I did screw into studs) It's really easy to install. Comes with everything you need.
