Will these work with 12gauge wire. I have the older version and 12 gauge wire will not fit in slot

It is a tight fit but as long as the sharp probe penetrates the 12 gauge wire, it should work. It worked on my 12 gauge.

Are these waterproof?

they are not water proof. I use them in 12v outdoor lighting connections and they are under mulch.

Will this work with solid awg 20 light cord to awg 16?

I think that transitioning from any solid core wiring would be problematic. I believe this connector is designed for use with stranded core wire, where the individual strands are “mushed” together to form an electrical connection. Might be worthwhile to buy a small pack and see whether you can make it work.
