Excellent combination of sturdiness and portability
I was looking for sturdy stand with a good range of height but one that is also portable. This is it! From my experience, it's quite difficult to find sturdy music stands that have a top part (the part where you place your music) that doesn't have empty space but that folds up, but this stand has it. I've been very happy with this purchase.

Perfect music stand for the working musician.
I'm a professional freelance musician, and I've gotten in the habit of leaving certain tools--the ones you may or may not need, but never think to bring--in the car. For the twelve years I had my old full-size vehicle, I'd leave my bass stool, a bag of random cables, a guitar stand, and a music stand in the trunk, after the first few gigs where it turned out I needed a stand and one wasn't provided. For a short while, I tried a wire stand, like a Hamilton KB-70, but it wouldn't hold large folders, and especially fake books, without the threat of falling over. So I acquired a Manhasset stand to leave in my trunk. God knows the trunk could have fit about 50 of those stands in there.I was getting tired of the extra hand needed to schlep that Manhasset around, so I got this. I've now had it for four years, and there isn't so much as a scratch on it. When I moved to a smaller crossover vehicle, it made MUCH more sense to leave this in the car rather than the Manhasset. The Peak stand is at least as sturdy as the Manhasset, with a much wider base, and a little lighter. Because of the clamps, there's no real threat of the stand to start sagging after years of use like with the Manhasset or Wenger stands. My Hercules guitar stand wasn't going to do well being left in that car, so I bought an Ultimate Support folding guitar stand. Big bonus: with some figuring out, the guitar stand fits in the Peak stand's carrying case along with the Peak stand! So my guitar stand is at any gig where I need a music stand, and my music stand is at any gig where I need a guitar stand. I haven't forgotten either since I bought this stand! My only negative takeaways:1.) The carrying straps on the case are an odd length. They're too long to just want to hold at your side, and too short to wear the case as a backpack. Generally, if I'm playing either upright or electric bass, I'll just hang the case off the neck of my instrument to keep a hand free. Not the greatest solution, but it's worked.2.) The zipper is very cheap, and the pull is bent simply from zipping the case opened and closed. I'm sure it will eventually break off.3.) Not really a negative takeaway, but I bought the SMS-50 for the added height, since I'm tall. Turns out I never even use the last extension on the stand, so one of the shorter ones would have done me fine. Not a huge deal, but if there's a significant price difference when you see this review on the different heights, I'd simply go with whatever's cheaper. In short, this stand has done an exemplary job on the hundreds of gigs I've used it on, and it's still in new condition. I definitely recommend this to any working musician!

BEST portable stand ever!
Absolutely the BEST portable stand ever! Forget those impossibly flimsy folding wire stands and those impossibly bulky one piece concert hall stands for playing on the go. Clever telescoping 2-piece construction, easy to deploy and to collapse back into its sturdy carrying bag. Very substantial, sturdy and stable.

Love this stand!
Already have done numerous gigs with this stand. Very portable and light. Love that it has a carrying bag and does not take up much space in the car. Highly recommend if you are constantly lugging around a full metal music stand.

Just as expected.
It's everything good that people said it was. It surprised me how sturdy it is for a portable and it's easy to set up. So, yeah, it's great.

The Bentley of Music Stands
I'm a cellist and have used the classic stainless steel stands for years (tip overs, music sliding off, parts that nestle but can be unwieldy, and fast-release clamps that may or may not work). This stand is a wholly different experience! It is beefy, black, elegant, easy to assemble, portable, very adjustable, and comes in it's own case (though because the manufacturers made the case no bigger than necessary - it can impossible to fit if not completely collapsed). The stand itself is made up of 2 pieces: Base + shaft + tray back -- and tray lip. The base comprises 3 thick tube legs with rubber ends, that connect to and pivot away from the shaft - providing an almost earthquake-proof stability. The tray piece extends via hinges and is stabilized by the lip (the other piece) that connects using tongue and groove. The lip has two pivoting "hooks", supposedly to keep music from sliding off but they are not spring-loaded so offer no draft protection (my ONLY real criticism). For storage: The legs fold against the shaft whilst the tray rocks backward and (with the lip removed), collapses *around* the shaft and legs. Incredibly clever design! The product is moderately light, very stable, very attractive, and *wide* -- perfect for practice, solo, or "black metal stand" events (though it would certainly be conspicuous amongst a sea of silver stands).I can't recommend this enough!

Brilliant music stand!
After being gifted with one years ago, I've been paying it forward and gifting this to my musician friends. This music stand is amazing. Lightweight, compact, sturdy and able to hold it's own in nearly any situation. Easy and quick to assemble. The stand adjusts easily to heights ranging from sitting to standing. It can handle the heaviest of music books, especially in a stiff crosswind. Even the wee little page holders are tough and not flimsy looking. It also does well with slightly uneven surfaces. Though this stand is not the sleekest design, but it does certainly get attention and have a fairly high "cool" factor. The bag that you pack it into is compact and unassuming, which makes this music stand that much more awesome. Excellent buy for your money. Highly recommended for any musician who travels and needs a music stand.

One of the hinges broke after less than 10 uses
I bought the stand to have an ultralightweight option and this does the job. However, one of the hinges is already broken after 10 uses. So, I suspect the point of failure will be on those side flaps. I don't like how it folds up, as it feels very cheap. I would have preferred it to be tighter and so stays in place once you fold it up. To keep it folded up you have to put it into the bag. The bag just fits the stand, so it is difficult to slide the stand in. Having an opening at the end of the bag would have been better so one could slide it in. Due to the challenge of putting it into the bag, it's probably better to use it without the bag unless one really does need to travel with the stand.UPDATE: I contacted the company and they kindly sent me another music desk.

Parfait pour le transport
J’ai toujours traîner mon lutrin 4 pages que j’adore mais il est tellement lourd… ce lutrin est facile à monter et tellement léger, je ne comprend pas comment j’ai pu m’en passer tout ce temps

I love it. I holds my 2 binders of music
I love it. I holds my 2 binders of music. I'm normally a klutz, so it's so nice to have a sturdy standthat doesn't feel like it's going to topple over. There were times , when I had constant anxiety, when itsit going to fall?Love that it's light weight, has sturdy metal legs, can use it in a standing position, and that the top platefolds down very compactly.I've seen other stands, where the top plate, doesn't fold down {either solid or filled with holes to make lighter), or only folds in half. This stand is perfect for me. :D
