Worked with Linux!
I decided to take a chance on this product without knowing if it would work.My system is Ubuntu Linux running as my media server. I used this adapter to show the output from my subwoofer management module, which outputs to s-video.My connections were s-video and L+R audio to my Linux server. All worked flawlessly, though when I ran other audio tools on the server at the same time, there were a couple of audio dropouts. However, that could have been an issue with those applications fighting over resources. I am very happy with this product.

Stopped Working After 4 Uses
As some reviewers have stated - the included disc has issues. It spins but does not seem to read. Walked away after 5 minutes and came back later. Install screen came up 3 minutes after the initial 5. I tried the unit several times to see what segments I want to record. The software shows what is playing on the tape. I used it about 4 times and then hit record. I watched the short piece that it recorded. Then went back to officially record my VHS. The preview screen stopped working and just showed a grey screen. The unit seemed warm so I unplugged it and came back after a couple hours later... still just a grey screen. I then uninstalled and reinstalled all the software with the same outcome. Never got to record anything from my old VHS tapes.

Hardware works great, Windows software CD did NOT work
I read through a number of other reviews on this particular video capture device, and was extremely hesitant to buy this low cost analog video capture USB device. However, I read a number of positive reviews as well, and for the price, I figured ... "What the heck, it's worth a shot"When I received the product, I looked over the quick start instructions (very straight forward), took it to my PC and plugged it in. Windows 10 recognized the device, installed the appropriate drivers, and the device appeared as expected. However, when I inserted the software CD, my PC started having a bit of a fit. That is to say, I could hear the drive trying ever so desperately to make some sense out of what I just shoved into it. After some time, the computer just gave up and spit the disc back out at me. At first I thought it may be my drive (after all, who uses physical disc media nowadays, anyway?!). To verify, I inserted another CD-ROM (fortunately I still had an old printer driver CD laying around) and it worked flawlessly. Re-inserted the adapter software CD, and again, no dice.I searched online for the Honestech VHS to DVD 3.0 SE software that this was supposedly on the CD, but every link I found took me to a newer version (9.0) of the software, now by VIDBOX. However, that version won't accept my software key.OK, so loaded the Camera app included with Windows 10, switched the input to the AV TO USB2.0 device, and started playing some video from our old Hi8 camcorder. Worked fine. After searching around a bit more, I was able to find a "free for home use" screen capture app that can read the video and audio input from the USB device (it sees them as a webcam and microphone, respectively), and has plenty of options for output.Unlike some other reviewers, I have had zero problems with the hardware itself. Currently about an hour and a half into encoding the first tape. Video and audio are both coming through with absolutely no problem. The fact that the software this came with simply did not read from the CD is why I downgraded this from 5 stars to 4. Maybe other folks would have downgraded it further, but really I bought it for the hardware. Software is pretty easy to come by.

Easiest way to transfer VHS or other old media to digital
I bought this to transfer some old family movies on old VHS cassettes. While finding a working VCR was an unrelated challenge, once I had one in my possession, I plugged this into the VCR and laptop and it just worked. Windows recognized it as a Webcam device, and I just opened the built-in Camera app, switched to Video mode, clicked Record, then Play on the VCR, and it Just Worked :). No third-party software required. No drivers required. If you are trying to transfer from old media formats and have a device with the RCA (Red, Yellow, White) plug interface, this will make the task super simple.

Works out, 1 audio channel only (no stereo)
I bought this a while ago and haven’t had a chance to use it until today. Works ok, but sadly on 1 channel of audio (left and right get summed). Wish it was stereo as the description says, but I guess that’s a lie.

Works without driver on macOS Mojave
Macbook Pro Mid 2015 w/ 10.14.6 Mojave. Bought to capture NTSC VHS (as old as 1987) and Hi8 tapes. Using QuickTime X the UVC interface is selectable as a source. QT Record Movie options are Quality: High and Maximum. High made a MOV AVC 640x480 30.0fps w/ one channel of AAC 256Kbps 48KHz audio. Maximum made a MOV ProRes 720x576 25.0 fps w/ one channel PCM 96KHz 16bit audio. 25fps is PAL, not NTSC and useless to me.I tried OBS Studio. I could select 640x480, 352x288 (1/4 size PAL), 320x240 and High (720x576 PAL). I chose 640x480 @30fps. If I wanted to go to DVD it should be 704x480 for NTSC.The quality is OK from my newer Hi8 (s-video) but my older VHS (s-video) would not color lock. I would get a picture with bands of swirling rainbow colors. It would lock up sometimes then back to rainbows. Unusable unless I was OK with using a OBS filter and making my captures Black and White.I never tried this unit on Windows so also never tried the Windows capture / edit software that came on CD.

Easy to Use - Working Reliably
I have been using this to digitally capture VHS tapes - at this writing I have over 150 hours of tapes converted with no problems - most of the tapes were 30 minutes in length from a community cable broadcast program - so I have used this unit over 300 times.

Had issues
I use this with a raspberry pi (tested also with a Mac) for a backup camera. The main issue I have is that this thing takes about 6-8 seconds to start the video from the camera which is way too slow waiting for a backup camera to show up. It also will only work properly the first time it connects to the camera. If you close and reopen it, it will flip back and forth from video and to black, or just black. Bought an EasyCap for a third of the price and it works fine, video from the camera is almost instant.
