Kwikset Security, 83014-015, 5 Inch Deadbolt Door Latch, For Doors With 5 Inch Backset, Polished Brass

A few months ago my uncle called me and asked if I had any use for an old door that had been in his house for 50+ years. The house originally belonged to my late grandparents. I love old, high-quality wood furnishings, doors, door frames, moldings etc...He had replaced it with an all-glass door and knew I would be interested in it. I got it home. Cleaned it up with some Murphy's Oil and was all excited about it. It included the original door knob and recessed door knob backplate. I then glanced at it and thought, "Why is that doorknob way over there?" I'm not hardly old enough to remember when 5 inch backsets were common, but knew that's what I needed. I tried Home Depot, Lowes, even Wal-mart, but none of them had them or knew where I could get one. I even asked an older contractor, who gave me what sounded like the best advice, "Just use the backset that is in the door with a new knob and lock." So I started working on getting the old door knob off which was a lesson in patience since I didn't realize it all removed from one side first. That's also when I realized I couldn't use the old backset with a new knob. It was built into the old door knob. I did what any reasonable person would do and opened Amazon. There it was. The Kwikset 3014-01. I was so happy, I upped the shipping to 1 day. As soon as it arrived, I popped it in and it worked perfect with my new door knob and was even able to retain the old knob's backplate. Couldn't be happier. Hopefully Kwikset will continue making these since I have 4 other doors I would like to eventually exchange for older doors.

Seems to be a quatily replacement for my Schlage replacement in my old front door. Works as it should.

It's a kwikset 5 inch entry latch. It works and replaces your old worn out one.

Replaces extended door knob perfectly

The quality of this 5-inch replacement door latch was very poor. Installed easily. When installed, it would not even turn enough to retract the door latch all the way, even though installed with a Kwikset door handle. Once closed the door latch would not retract far enough to clear the stop, and I had a difficult time opening the door. As you can see in the photos, the photo at left is the latch as is, and the photo at right is the furthest the latch would retract. I had to remove the door handle and try to manipulate the latch manually with a screw driver to get the door latch retracted enough to finally clear the stop. Removed the latch and it is going into the trash. I damaged it somewhat trying to remove it. I reinstalled the door handles without the latch, until I can figure out a better solution. Still have a working deadbolt, so door is secure, but door handles do not do anything, other than look good. Bottom line: Flimsy construction and unable to perform its function. I am going to look for a better quality 5-inch replacement or call a locksmith. Disappointed with Kwikset on this one, as I otherwise like their products.
