I don't know what to think about this except that it was a let down.
Many have waited quite some time for this book. It is 866 pages, covers about 5 days of time and shows a couple of systems that have been popping up in the genre for the last year or so. Nothing ground breaking. The issue this book suffers from is that it is way too big for the small amount of progression we see. In written form, this is almost unbearably painful to see. It really is not great when Richter looks at new talents and skills individually and considers them individually before looking at the other traits/skill. The depth that the Author decided to take the thoughts and decision making for his skill/trait and other things selection was maddening at times. So much could have been cut from this book without damaging the progress Richter had made, easily 200-300 pages could have been cut with no discernible difference. The raiders Rocked, it was 2200 pages sure, but it had a huge amount of progression. This book just seemed like filler and I can't give it higher than 3 stars.

Bit of a let down...
I'd like to start out by saying I've been a big fan of the books, but this one was a disappointment. The story only focused on Richter and his underground adventures. The entire book only covers a few days. Pretty much no story progression occured. It packed the punch of a short story, but was the length of a novel. I hope book 9 takes us back above ground.

Nothing happens. At all
A wait of two years gave me a book I read in 6 hours that takes place over 5 days. Less content, higher price, and a heavily delayed release schedule since the author is more interested in going to conventions than writing. Such a disappointment.

Garbage. Not worth the wait.
This was terrible. We waited 2 freaking years for Kong to finish this garbage? There was no progression for the amount of "content". He had a chapter of the MC having diarrhea. Really? Ridiculous. The book could've been released a year and 400 pages earlier without any detriment to the series. But Kong would rather promote his garbage merchandise and ad trap games than write a decent book. Father of litrpg my ass. I wouldn't suggest this book, series or author to anyone.

An Overpriced Novella Without Progress
To accurately sum up the book, everything but the last chapter and the online epilogue should have been condensed down into a 40 page prologue. I wouldn't say it was a dumpster fire, mainly because the dumpster fire has substance.I'm a fan of this series, and I paid an epic length price for an elongated novella. I have a lot of respect for the previous entries, but this book severely disappointed me. Mr. Kong, I sincerely hope you read this and give us the rewrite this book and your fans deserve. On a positive note, the last 15 or so pages and the online epilogue are very enjoyable, and would be excellent material to start a rewrite from.

A disappointing entry
I wanted to give 2.5 stars, but it needs to be whole numbers for some reason so it gets 3. This honestly feels like only a third of a book with a bunch of filler references. We get that Richter is stronger. You can remind us once that his stats started at ten and thats good, don't beat us over the head with it several times. And we honestly don't need five pages describing the end result of food poisoning. A paragraph might have been funny, this was gross overkill.Despite all this, Richter is still impulsive and only plot armor is saving him. Who runs into an open room in a tunnel system because they found a necessity without checking for enemies? That's adventuring 101, and for him to be doing that this late in the series is disappointing. Easily the worst entry into the series.

Some Spoilers | Actual stars 3.5 | This is essentially John Wick Chapter 3
What I mean by that, aside from some missed edits that got through (one of which is the use of Luminous in the wrong place and another is missing words in sentences sprinkled through out), this book is more connective tissue, that apparently only covers 3-4 days of time, to what happens next (Bugbears, Dwarves, the convoy of new refugees from Law, How Nexus is screwing around with Roswan by sending a Wood Elf Librarian to the MV, etc), so this should come down as book 7.5 rather than a complete entry in the series . I honestly would have preferred that it was longer and didn't spend so much time on describing bowel movements but I will be waiting for book 9 and hopeful that it is more like book 7 than this one.Gnomes Rule!

Very Disappointed
This will be the only book in the series I will never reread. Around 60% of the book in I remember sighing to myself that we were still going over his level up items from the last book and the story really hadn't progressed at all.I honestly feel cheated that this is considered a book in comparison to his prior books. It has nothing to do with size of the book. I would have been delighted to get a 300 page well written story. The tone felt off and nothing really happened. If he had presented this as 7.5 or short bridge story instead of as book 8 I might have given it a better review.Lastly, do we really need to hear if this this this this had not happened in my past he could not have hit this hard for two pages? Do we need a recap of every system in detail? Did we really need a chapter about a bowel movement? This book needs to be looked at by a professional editor. Have them trim the fluff to just leave the beautiful gem that could exist underneath.

Too much fluff, not enough actual story progression.
Let me first say, that I have loved this series...it has been only one of three that I have read multiple times. I was so excited for this book that I stayed up to read it. I was sadly, very disappointed. I desperately wanted to love this book, but to be honest, it felt like it was fluffed out. I felt that after the status windows were there, which we could easily read for ourselves, it was then needlessly repeated in several paragraphs. I don't feel like the story progressed at all. It just seems like this book was lacking substance. I give 5 stars for the author because I truly do like him, but this book made my heart hurt because I desperately wanted to love it, but I feel let down.

Who are you & what have you done to Aleron Kong?
After the cliff hanger ending of the last book I was looking forward to seeing how things would go for Richter, alas so much of the book was spent working through notifications in agonising detail. I think the review started around 15% through the book & continued well past 60% - dear god I thought, it's finally moving onwards, except the very next conflict sees Richter back again to reviewing something that wasn't covered previously & off we go again... & just to add insult to injury, it happens a third time! For an author who has previously set the gold standard for LitRPG this installment is down there with the worst this genre has to offer.

The story continues, a little...
I enjoyed that this was a continuation of a series I’ve really enjoyed. I hope it continues, so four stars as I can see how it continues the tale. But, but,... It’s only a third of a novel. The majority of the text is catching up on the previous excellent book, linked together by long winded fights with monsters. Overall very, very little of the story is progressed, and the style randomly becomes simply vulgar without purpose. It feels at times like the author was either struggling for things to write about (how many pages taken up by a bout of food poisoning?), or extensive reflections on the prompts. The book reaches no conclusion — he travels a bit then meets some people. The end. Possibly to be continued. With a two year wait for this book, this is a disappointment. I do hope though that the next book gets the story back on track

So disappointed
What a let down ! There was no real story at all just a way to cash in on previous works. So disappointed.

Very little story
The chaos seed series has always been fairly stat heavy with constant explanations of them, yet in the past there has always been a good level of story and interaction between characters to make up for it. This one spent more time doing stats than anything else. As always I enjoyed the story elements he had added, I like how his enchanting progressed. But too much was just, stats, prompts and exlplanaions of stats and prompts. I almost gave up reading when I reached a chapter that was fully dedicated to explaining Richter's explosive diarrhea, don't get me wrong, I found the fact that he ended up with it comical but dedicating an entire chapter to it was completly overkill. A lot of series usually have one book that lets it down completly, and I think this is it for the Chaos seed series. I will still be looking to buy book 9 however and will be keeping my fingers crossed that it will be up to his usual standards. I would still recommend buying this as a continuation of the series, just don't expect a lot a lot of story from it. Is much better to think of it as an interesting side-quest than a continuation of the series.
