Powerful story
Amazing, interesting story of life in Korea for the women divers. Beautifully written and makes you want to know more about them and their culture

Informative read
Definitely worth reading as it reveals a lifestyle and history not commonly known about. I did feel it was overly long, and didn’t really believe in the issue that caused the rift between the friends. Any rational person would reflect differently. Interesting but flawed in my opinion.

A beautiful work of fiction that is full of historical facts
I was drawn to this book having travelled in South Korea, including Jeju, earlier this year. Although a work of fiction, I learnt so much about the lives of the haenyeo over several decades including the persecution suffered at the hands of the Japanese. The friendship between the two main characters is beautifully written as well as heart-breaking and I warmed to these two girls/women. My only regret is that I didn't read the book before I visited Jeju.

Great historical fiction from women’s pov
Brilliant intro to Jeju recent history and culture through historical fiction. It’s hard to believe the author isn’t from Jeju.
