Q: My monitor is dell h2016h with dp and i need to connect it to a laptop with hdmi port. does this cable work?

the appropriate item should be https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0752D33PJ?ref=myi_title_dp, the displayport and hdmi are different protocol, the conversion is uni-directional, it's not bi-directional. the cable here is only used to connect the pc or laptop with displayport output, the monitor with hdmi input. It could not work in the opposite direction.

This is full size with display port on one side and HDMI on the other. Most newer computers (laptop or desktop) have HDMI and VGA connections vs. Display ports. I bought this for my wife's older work laptop that doesn't have HDMI connection but only Display port or VGA, exclusively. Works great on second display screen when working from home. Just recently upgraded the video card (along with a few other components) in my PC, but in doing so, reduced my available HDMI ports to just one, with 3 Display Ports... so obviously I had to do something about that so I can keep rocking two monitors.Enter this product- it does the job I need it for, and at one of the lowest price points I could find. Friendly warning/reminder of this product's info page, this cord is specifically for an HDMI monitor plugging into a display port; it will not work in reverse.

No sound

Great cable. No instructions. Sound did not work automatically. My older computer wanted to send the sound up the Displayport/HDMI cable. That would have been fine if the monitor had speakers. I went to the audio settings and fixed the problem. It is not a cable problem. Check your settings.
