It's brewed Cacao, Not Hot Chocolate
As long as you are not expecting this to taste like sweet hot chocolate, you will be good. This brew has a smooth, non bitter taste. I find it to be a great alternative to coffee. I mix half coffee and half Crio. I really like the flavor that it gives the coffee as well as reducing the amount of caffeine I am consuming.

Wildly overrated with nearly no flavor
After getting inundated with ads from all sides - I caved in and bought two bags of this beverage. I read the reviews (mostly positive) and decided to dive in and get two different 'flavors'. It sounds delicious if you read the rave reviews about it...who doesn't love chocolate, right? The second bag was delayed in getting to me so I canceled the order - figuring I could reorder it if I wound up liking the product - mostly because of the cost. I tried that mushroom 'coffee' and I thought it tasted like hot dirt with some wet tree bark for flavor. I had higher hopes for this product.Candidly, I don't like it. I didn't have a gold tone/metal filter for my coffee maker so I had to buy one. I find that I've had to use at least twice as much of this as I do with regular ground coffee to get any kind of flavor out of it.I expected a bit more body out of the flavor profile. It's simply not there. I drink higher quality coffee - I don't use K cups, Folgers or Maxwell House. I'm used to drinking real coffee - local brewers with strong flavor profiles, occasionally Pete's or Caribou. Never Starbucks because it's over-roasted and typically slightly burned during roasting. I was expecting a 'lighter than coffee' flavor profile with chocolate notes. What I have managed to brew is hot water with a hint of chocolate flavor. I've brewed this with increasing volume of grounds, slower brewing, smaller batches, larger batches...it all tastes the same - some simply take longer to finish. I measured all of the ingredients to make sure it was done correctly.I'm now happy I canceled the 2nd bag.PROS:Smells great when you open the bagCONS:Very expensive based on how much needs to be usedRequires a metal/gold tone filter - you can't use paper filtersNear zero flavor overall - hot chocolate-scented water is what it amounts to overall

A delicious alternative to espresso.
I drink freshly-ground Starbucks French Roast (prepared as espresso) and this is a delicious alternative. Crio Bru is strong and robust with clear cocoa notes. It's not creamy or sweet like hot chocolate, but you can nudge it in that direction if you added a little half & half and sugar ... I use 3 tablespoons of Crio Bru with a slow, 7 ounce pour-over in a metal cone. The instructions tell you to NOT use a paper filter, so factor that into your purchase. Overall, very enjoyable.

When coffee and caffeine are no longer an options.
When caffeine and coffee are no longer options and herbal teas are not your thing, this is a good option to explore. Over the past several years, I have tried nearly all of the regular and seasonal varieties and have settled on several favorites. All are cacao bean based but the chocolate flavor and intensity vary. Some differ based on the region they are grown, some by the roasting process while others have flavoring added like mint, coconut, pumpkin spice, caramel, etc. I have found the best way for me to brew it is with a French press but there are other ways to try as well. Generally, for a 10oz cup I use 2 rounded tablespoons of grounds to the press, add the hot water, stir, and let it brew for 8-10min, press it and pour back into my cup and enjoy, some add creamers and sweeteners to taste. While it is convenient to order from Amazon, some of the CrioBru products are not offered there, so you may want to check out CrioBru's website for the full product line and seasonal offerings. The downside is that the product is a bit expensive. A good way to explore the various options without having to buy a regular sized bag of each is to order their small bag variety pack option to start.
