Buy for comfort, not sound
I am surprised at the number of reviews (international) praising the sound through these ear pads. On my SR60x not only did these thicker, bigger pads recess the sound, but also spoilt the openness and sparkliness that Grados are known for. Forget the twinkling highs once you put these pads instead of the stock pads. Even the bass gets boomy, and inflated in a less musical way. In fact the bass loses its definition and also rides over the mids.So, if you want to buy these and put on your Grados for added comfort, please do. These thicker pads are far easier on your earlobes. Though I suspect the thickness would also heat up on longer listening (I didn’t listen with them on beyond a few tracks due to the sound deterioration I experienced above). But I wouldn’t recommend these expecting an improvement in sound. The Grado designers know the best, after all.
