Yes, the fan can run while charging. Also, note that there are two micro USB ports: One on the battery for charging, and one that connects directly to the fan. You can connect the micro USB cable to the fan and run it off electricity instead of the battery. Or you can connect the cable to the battery and charge while running the fan. I purchased two of these so far, and they outperform all other handheld fans to date. The battery lasts all day long on a single charge. I have traveled to multiple countries with this fan in my carry-on luggage. A true lifesaver when the AC went out on a plane while stuck on the airport tarmac for two hours in the summer!
