Q: it may be a simple installation for most, but what in the world are all of these pieces for? please explain.

I had the same question when I bought the kit. Rear license plates require a machine screw. Front license plates require a Wood screw. The black plastic washers go under the screws, and the black plastic caps fit over the washers To create another impediment to theft. Plus, it looks good. All in all, it’s a very cool kit to prevent license plate theft.

Q: How do you get behind the license plate to install the locknut ?

You don’t need to get behind the license plate to install a locknut. There should already be a threaded hole behind the plate—both front and back.

Q: These do not fit a 2016 mini cooper as the width of the screw and the threads are too big. any suggestions on other kits with smaller screws?

Confirmed, these do not fit the standard BMW/MINI bracket

Q: Does each kit come with a different type of Allen wrench? What's to stop a thief from buying this just to get the allen wrench?

Its a standard torx security wrench thas readily available from amazon , home depot and other hardware stores. It not security like locking lug nuts. Its just simple security that deters the general public from unscrewing them with a common philips screwdriver.
