Humax HB-1100S Freesat HD TV with Satellite Receiver

Bought this after old set box packed in and research a bit about which ones were best etc etc. Having purchased it was very simple to connect up and had channels preset so connect your sat dish cable then your hdmi cable switch on and your up and running.It connects to ethernet cable or WiFi so great for Netflix or YouTube which are a bonus with this box. EPG is easy enough to use I just put channels I watch mainly into favourites and fined it grand.One problem I did have when I connected this box was I lost functions on remote for my TV ( I.e my TV wouldn't respond to remote ) after contacting their support team I got advice to try few things and found them very helpful eventually I used an adopter to disable pin 13 which was the CEC on hdmi cable and everything working away fine now.Hope this review might be helpful to some people. Easy to set up and easy to operate. Does exactly what is required but comes with, no doubt, a few extra functions that I will never use that manufacturers add to distinguish their, otherwise indistinguishable, products. I see that nowadays there seems to be no pressure to make these things large and heavy to justify the price charged. This is a step forward as that justification vanished along with glass valves many years ago.

Good looking box with wi-fi Internet connection, some smart functions (which I don't use as I already have them on the TV this is connected to). Simple plug and play set up when connected HDMI port and satellite cable.Very easy use guide.The remote cane be used to work the TV but you'll need to go to the Humax website to download the code list.All in all, very happy with this box.

I particularly like the Android app for this device. I use it more than the remote.Program recording is very easy. It did take a few minutes to find out how to stop a recording in progress though so I could change the channel.Pause feature works great.I did waste some time trying to get a USB stick working until I discovered they aren't supported. However I did have an old external drive that I could attach and it worked fine.I would definitely recommend this set top box.

I recently cancelled my Sky subscription after realising that most of what we watched was on Freeview and also subscribing to Netflix. I bought the Humax to watch freesat and because with an attached USB hard drive, I could record programmes and I could live pause and rewind. Unfortunately, after a few weeks of using the Humax, the live pause and rewind no longer worked. Humax's only solution was to reformat the USB hard drive and therefore losing all my recordings. So reformat I did and everything work fine. Then 10 days later the same thing happened again. After googling the issue I found that many Humax customers have the same issue and Humax have no fix.This Humax is a p1$$ poor substitute for a Sky box. If you are thinking of a Freesat box, buy another brand. You will only have grief with Humax.

Only found out the item is not new, my fault, didn’t read the very small, small print.However, both remote and device have not been cleaned. Fingerprints, dirty, and not factory reset, still had old postcode data.Generally, not professional!

The first one that I had refused to record but was replaced immediately by Amazon and the second one is perfect.Lots to navigate around but, once mastered, is fine.Great picture and recordings - you need an external HDD for this. One without its own power supply works on my set.

Overall pleased.Was very easy to set up out of the box.Don't like the green hue on the menu as any with eyesight issue might find this not a great visual for crystal clarity, its not.There's no back button to switch between programmes watched, a function I love and previously used a lot.I notice a very annoying massive difference in channel volumes, and the fact that sometimes the remote that comes with doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the sound and other times it does!?I had understood from the product write up that use of a USB stick would provide the storage facility for recording programmes, but it doesn't as I've tried. It needs an hdd, and which is incredibly easy to connect using an hdmi lead and one of the hdmi slots on your tv.It's so worth having for that hdd facility, as then it really comes into it' own, with tons of recordings that are easy to set up, view and remove/keep, and to pause rew/fwd the tv. The best, and highest level feature on this box I would say. You can only watch the live channel being recorded at the time though, or one or your recorded shows. Unless you buy the next level up for over £100 more which will allow watching one channel whilst recording another. However, if you are watching one of a group of channels, you can switch between those whilst one is recorded, i.e. it's been possible to record something on one BBC and watch another show on another BBC channel, same with other channel groupings, like E4 (+1/etc), channel 5 (+1/other 5channels), etc.Any HDD plugged in to use with it can only interact with this one box, so, if you get another and want to share the hdd for recording between them, it doesn't work. It will record, but will only show the recordings from one box when plugged in to that box, a bit odd considering the recordings are supposedly on the HDD. Just means you have to get one per box.Also, first box so far has lasted 7 years. Second box currently not allowing all channels to be selected for watching for some reason, issue hopefully will be investigated promptly,but will update on that.
