I bought a couple of these - a smaller one and then, after deciding it was probably too small, the largest version I could find.It's a smooth wool-type (probably synthetic) material - it's more coarse than a baize type felt, but it definitely adds something to an otherwise bare desk. It also dampens the sound of a keyboard in use and makes a mouse smoother to operate.I took the small one into my office and kept the larger one in my home-office. I was surprised that it laid totally flat after being rolled up in a box and it doesn't slip on the desk either.I'd like to try a leather one, but then I expect that would cost far more than these do
