Yes, it comes with a slip on case. As a bonus, there is a strap attached to each end of the case which serves as a sling so you can carry the Repel over you shoulder. Very handy. I recommend this umbrella.

The large canopy measures 48" for full protection.

Can this fit in a backpack?

It is not a telescope handle (it does not fold in on itself) so it depends on the size of your suitcase. It's about 2 1/2 feet long.
