Mine are hung high on the wall, but I would guess, 1/2 inch.

What are exact measurements of XL?

The width of the part of the clip that grabs what you clip it to is 2 1/2 inches. It could probably clip about an inch high stack if needed. I use it to hold open travelers notebooks when I work on them and want to hold open the pages for photographs. I preferred the antique look of the brass but they do have other colors.

Does this set of four clips come in the one color bronze, or four different colors?

My bronze set of four clips are all the same color. They are very good quality and come in different sizes.
