Great CM Resource!
I loved this book. Short, to the point, and the author’s dry sense of humor comes through. Love her analogies and obvious homeschooling experience. It’s so nice to learn from someone who has been there and done it. Great book lists! Helpful schedule examples. Wonderful how-to quick-start reference!

One of the books I read at the beginning of each school year
This is not a discussion or summary of Mason's works. It's more a how to implement her method. I love how it's organized. It has just the information I need without having to dig around.I love this book and use it often. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in the Charlotte Mason method.

Wonderful resource for quick implementation of Charlotte Mason methods!
I have been homeschooling for 18 years and read and experimented with many, many different educational philosophies. One of my favorites is Charlotte Mason. "A Charlotte Mason Education" and its companion book, "More Charlotte Mason Education" by Catherine Levison, were recommended to me way back in the beginning for short chapters and quick implementation of CM methods in my home. These two little books help you to quick-start in any one subject or several, along with suggested book lists and sample schedules from both the author and Miss Mason so you can see at a glance what a "school day" looks like, not only in Miss Mason's schools, but also in the real world today. These books are NOT meant to be a thorough examination of every single thing Miss Mason believed and taught, so for the reviewer who complained of it being "poorly written", I wonder what she was expecting or meant by that. If she meant that these books aren't as detailed or comprehensive as Miss Mason's own writings, she would be right. They're not meant to be. But if she meant it's because the chapters are short and to-the-point, or even grammatically incorrect, then she would be wrong, because "short and to-the-point" has a purpose in this case. The books were professionally edited and published, so any grammar or structural errors would've been caught along the way. Or perhaps the reviewer was referring to the many quotes by Miss Mason, who was a turn-of-the-century educator in England and whose language was quite different from ours today. But for the teacher or mother who's looking for a simple-yet-sufficient overview of the CM methods and tips for getting started right away, these books are perfect! I highly recommend them.

Charlotte Mason Home Education for a new generation!
When I first read Catherine's work, over 10 years ago. the great struggle for us home schoolers was to find "home school friendly" resources other than a stack of institutional type textbooks and workbooks. At that time, Catherine's overview of the CM method made a brilliant education accessible, by helping us use ordinary resources, like library books, notebooks, sketching pads, instruments and the Great Outdoors in practical ways. Her samples were not exhaustive, but gave ideas, inspiration, and direction.Today, the reverse is true - hundreds of curricula and thousands of books of content vie for the home schooler's attention and dollars. Often, these well-meaning programs overwhelm and cause us to feel like failures, or we try program after expensive program to make school "easy". Each speaker is persuasive about how their program-book-system-online program will give our children the "best education"!Catherine Levison's simple concepts teach us that children have a great desire to learn, and the important thing is to support their love for learning and character development. The simplicity of using materials on hand and readily available resources, and enjoying our time with our children in a cheerful, low stress, stimulating environment is as powerful today as when CM taught it in the Victorian age -- and as practical as it was 20 years ago, when there were few marketed materials specifically for home school.I found that her method was "training wheels" for an extraordinary home life. No longer bound by ideas of desks and textbooks, I have found that my children have become competent scholars and delightful human beings by shaping their character with Charlotte Mason ideals, leading them in using time productively, and putting real resources at their disposal.I own all Catherine's books, and I highly recommend you do, too!
