Excellent piece of kit
I wanted a vacuum cleaner to use in a house renovation. I also needed the wet capability as I had a lot of plumbing to do.This is very rugged and is super easy to convert between the wet and dry versions.

Simple sturdy design, just works
I was having renovations done to my house and needed to clean up some building rubble and plaster dust. I was then using a Morphy Richards vacuum that I inherited from my sister, it had these two big cyclonic chambers (a la Dyson) however it’s performance was lacking. Despite its looks it would clog up if you even vaguely went near any plaster dust, this is due to the tiny filters and convoluted air path through the machine. Plaster dust is possibly one of the worst things to vacuum as it is extremely fine and sticks to everything. I had always though Numatics must be good as all the professional cleaners use them and I wanted to get a Henry.I bought this instead of the Henry as the Henrys are limited to a lower power due to energy saving regulations, Charles is 1.3kw as it is a wet/dry and falls under a different category. Also the appeal of the wet vacuum mode was a positive, so far I'm super happy with it. What I love about the Numatic stuff is that it is very simple and very high quality. There are no gimmicks or fancy tricks or expensive marketing (l'm looking at you Dyson). Their stuff just works and they wouldn’t be so popular with professional cleaners if they didn’tI also suffer from allergies so am sensitive to dust, I have never liked bagless vacuum cleaners as you constantly have to empty and clean the filters, whereas with bags you just pull the bag off, seal it and throw it. The suction is very strong and the accessories are simple but well made, particularly the brush head which is made with horsehair which keeps its shape unlike nylon bristles which are more common.I hadn’t used the wet feature until recently, my dad was visiting and he dropped his toothbrush head down my sink. I thought it was a goner but remembered Charles can do wet as well. It took less than a minute to change into wet mode and it sucked up the whole sink trap including the toothbrush head.My only criticisms are that it lacks a winding feature like the henry, however I have never liked the self-retracting cords as they always break after a while. Also it’s a bit bulky and large, but the plus side is that it has huge capacity. Overally highly recommended.

Superior Suction!
What can I say... Charles has become a new member of our family loved by all (except the dog-who is scared of Charles' face, as we wheel him around the home, believing him to be competition for his position as favoured household pet)!Things to love;1. Variable suction (controlled by a slide panel at the top of the hose section) from light, for dust, on furnishings, to extreme, for inground soot, on the carpet ( And I mean EXTREME- beware small change, earring backs & other loose floor debris)!2. Lightweight & easily manouverable ( particularly important as I have to carry it up & down stairs).3. Massive capacity for collection before bag needs replacing, yet the body of the unit is small enough to store away, easily, under our stairs.4. Obvious advantage of being able to suck up liquid spills & unblock plugholes as well as standard, everyday dry dirt. (Hubby finds it useful for cleaning the wood burner out, the morning after use, too).5. Separate lid (housing motor) -easily clips, & lifts, on & off, with no hinges, so easy access for fitting & removing bags & clearing obstructions in hose.6. Excellent quality filter (my kids have asthma & eczema so this is vital for us as a family).7. Fun design & ease of use- the kids are actually happy to vacuum their own rooms, without help or complaint, & have even volunteered to do others!Small niggles;1. I have to take final hose/tube section off to fit in the cupboard as it's so long.2. The cable for the plug is lovely & long but it can slip down, over the body of the vacuum, when packed away, as the only way to store it is to wind it round it's lid/hat (a couple more 'cable tidy' hook's on the lid would solve this problem- as the one supplied is not enough to hold it up all the way around).Summary; What's not to love... in addition its British made- so no problems with getting spare parts, replacement filters & bags etc!

My second one
I had a George for 25 years and it had a tough life—25 years without any real trouble. George had a carpet/hard floor cleaning system, and Charles had just a wet and dry vacuum.I love it! It is robust, reliable, simple to unblock, and seems to last a long, long time. Suitable attachments and now holds these on the body of the machine; good filtration with a big dirt bag. I am considering buying a longer flexible tube, but it's fine without—good parts supply when anything like the flexible tube eventually wears out.It is a well-made and popular machine often seen in hotels, but it is perfect for houses. The price is good too.

Strong suction
Strong suction. Good range of tools. Long cord. After 8 years of a Dyson cordless, I much prefer Charles.
