Seeking Spirits: The Lost Cases of The Atlantic Paranormal Society

I might as well go ahead and admit it--I'm a huge fan of Ghost Hunters and also the spin-off Ghost Hunters International. Both shows are entertaining and I adore the personalities of the ghost hunters themselves. However, within the same breath, I'm also a skeptic. I don't believe everything I see or hear on the shows.This book, Seeking Spirits, is about the cases Jason and Grant investigated before they landed on television. The cases are broken down into chronological order according to year. In between cases there are sections thrown in devoted to explaining certain types of hauntings, devices, etc., to elaborate. The cases themselves range from the believable to unbelievable to just plain crazy.Many of the cases in this book resulted in unexplained EVPs, noises, and the occasional shadow sighting. We see these types of cases a lot on the show. There were a couple of cases covered in this book that just seemed too "out there" for me. Take for instance the case entitled Pots & Pans. In 1997, a man named Tim claimed that his furniture would get rearranged and his pots and pans would be stacked in the floor by an unknown force. During the investigation Jason and Grant witnessed the claims first hand. They concluded that an "elemental" was responsible.Another case I found totally blown away with was the case of the doppelganger. In 2001, Jason and Grant got a call from a man that said he was concerned about his wife. He claimed that he would have conversations with his wife, then later his wife would account they had no such conversation. This doesn't seem very paranormal sounding does it? Well, the situation started to become worse for the man and his wife and he decided that he needed someone to come in and investigate his claims and get to the bottom of what was happening. According to Jason and Grant, there was a doppelganger impersonating the wife. I still can't seem to wrap my head around that one.Another case worth mentioning was an instance of a little old lady contacting T.A.P.S because she was hearing voices. Jason and Grant arrive and start conducting their interview with the lady. She was sweet and even brought them cookies and milk to snack on. At one point she goes to the kitchen to come back a minute later wielding a frying pan ready to conk both investigators on the head! The little old lady wasn't being affected by a haunting, instead she was found to have dementia.I was thoroughly entertained by this book even though a few of the cases seemed a bit far-fetched.*Book Hollow*

I really love Ghost Hunters so I wanted to read more about their lost cases. I've learned so much from Jason and Grant. I appreciate that they don't over-dramatize situations or assume things. They take everything with a grain of salt, even in these stories where the cases were much more complex than the ones shown on the TV series. I almost wish they could do a re-enactment series based on these cases! It's a breath of fresh air to listen to people who are passionate about what they do as well as they go the extra mile to uncover the truth. Sometimes, as with any career in case working, there are frauds or things that turn out to be a very simple explanation. I like that Jason and Grant point these out and explain the why of the situation. Even when the case turns out to be baffling, they don't hesitate to admit that they're not sure exactly what's going on. This book feels both interesting and honest. Jason and Grant also look for positive conclusions and do their best to help, even if a case or two doesn't end so positively. They really care about their clients as well as the spirits. This is definitely a good companion piece that provides some more depth in understanding why Jason and Grant started TAPS and it flows with the TV series as well.

This book was a complete pleasure to read, and I learned a lot from the book...and in fact, I really enjoyed the book more than most of the episodes of their television show! I thought the book was extremely well written! In fact, although it arrived here during the xmas/new years holidays when things were busy....I was reading it every time I had a few minutes! I finished it quickly and wished there had been even more to the book (despite it being almost 300 pages already). The stories, and there are many of them, were short enough to keep your interest (not padded with descriptive junk to fill up pages), but the stories were also descriptive enough so that you understand the entire picture....the situation, their approach, what was found, their deductions, and outcome. Each story has a little blurb at the end, that explains a certain facet of paranormal investigations, which is really helpful. The variety of cases/stories, all authentic, cover the range of their various investigations, from authentic hauntings, to elderly ladies with dementia, a man who picks up radio signals on his hearing aid, non human spirits, residual hauntings, etc. I admire T.A.P.S. approach to their investigations, they have thought these things out, when to research, what the goal is, hot to be objective and professionalism. Only two guys who are best friends and trust each other, could work together like these guys do. I highly recommend this book and am really glad I found it and bought it. Get this book and read it!

I enjoyed this book better than some of the earlier books just because it was written in more by the Jason and Grants perspective instead of a bunch of dialog from a team that isn't the characters we're used to seeing on TV. I wasn't sure reading the earlier books if they were made up characters set to investigations we'd seen or a different team we never had seen. In this one it was more about the actual haunt rather than dialog that seemed more like reading a novel than something that was supposedly real. I gave it four stars just because of its style of the way it was written versus the other earlier books, to me it just seemed more real even though they did some some evidence on a web link in the earlier books to substantiate the stories. Worth a read I feel Seemed a bit more about Jason and Grant than the earlier stuff which for me was what I was looking for in these sort of books.

Jason and Grant are fantastic story tellers and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of their books, including the two fiction novels hey have written.This ability to tell stories has enabled them to re-tell of their experiences as paranormal investigators in a way that you feel that you were there and part of the experiences. I would highly recommend this book to anybody interested in Paranormal research due to the "Ghost hunting guide" throughout the book which gives and insight into the TAPS approach to paranormal investigations. I would also recommend the book to anybody with any kind of paranormal interest whether the person is a believer or a sceptic, as it is a fantastic read and a thoroughly enjoyable book.I would like to take this opportunity to thank Grant Wilson for sharing his personal experiences that first gave him an interest in the paranormal. For anybody who doesn't know who Grant and Jason are, Grant is a very private person and reading about his experiences, I could feel how big it was for Grant to share these experiences and my thanks also extend to Jason and the rest of the team involved in publishing this very enjoyable book.

Seeking Spirits is not just a great book for fans of the tv show 'Ghost Hunters' which follows the investigations of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), it is a great book for anyone interested or intrigued by the paranormal. My family are big fans of the tv show, so when I found this book I knew it would be an ideal gift for my dad for Christmas - and it was, he didn't put it down til he'd finished it and he's read it 3 times in the last 4 months! It's now being passed around us so we can all read and enjoy it. I'd definately recommend this book to anyone wanting a good read, especially fans of the show!

An excellent book looking into the workings of TAPS. Really enjoyed it, felt like a conversation will Jason and Grant.
