The best quality notebooks that hold up for many years of use
I’ve been a fan of Moleskin notebooks ever since receiving my first during a corporate training event 15 years ago. While I worked at an office I preferred the 5 x 8.25” notebooks as they were the right size to carry from meeting to meeting and fit well in to my computer bag for travel, yet were large enough for good note taking. Working from home now allows me to transition to this larger size (XXL) has allowed me to have the additional space for more natural note taking, and makes it easy to integrate printed letter sized pages into my notes.Moleskin notebooks are bound well so the pages never fall out and the spine doesn’t break, despite the years of abuse I’ve given them over many years of travel. I’m able to use my fountain pen without bleed through to the other size of the page, but I prefer roller pens as they ink of fountain pens will run on these pages if they later get wet.I’ve lost count of the various notebooks I’ve used and they’ve all been Moleskin: Besides for work, I have one for my favorite beer making recipes, food smoker and canning instructions and notes on each batch. I have others for capturing thoughts, dreams, and ideas as the notebooks are just so comfortable to use and hold up well.

Great for fountain fine-nib pens
Love my Moleskine. I was nervous that the paper wouldn’t be able to tolerate fountain pens, but it does, and it does so beautifully. My fine nib Lamy safari is my daily writer. I’ve been able to test out different inks on this paper and even use other fine nib pens and haven’t had any issues with this paper.I love it so much that I bought another, larger one (the xxl) to use once this current notebook is filled.

Love!
This is pricey, but I always buy moleskine journals when I need a new one. I think this is my fourth one (all completely filled & different colors).I carry this notebook with me at all times and it shows no signs of tearing or wear. I am also super picky about the ruling distance of the lines, and love these notebooks. The paper is super good quality (thick, but not too thick).

Favorite journal size & brand
Been journaling for years and this size is perfect for travel. Exterior material is durable. Love the ribbon place marker. Lines and back pocket are always useful. Can be pricey but worth it.

Moleskine Supremacy!
I accidentally bought the wrong size and thought this was a 5x8, but thankfully my husband has been able to make great use of this little notebook at work. I love moleksine notebooks, they’re the only notebooks I’ve bought since 2020. Their craftsmanship is beyond any other notebook! I love how my writing looks when I journal.

Thin paper
Daughter got this for sketchbook. she likes size and portability but please know the pages are thin so when she was using markers- high level ones, the pages could not handle it well. Best for pencil sketches.

My choice when writing a journal to my son.
LONG STORY SHORT:I love these. I have been journalling and writing in Moleskine notebooks for over 15 years. During some seasons of life, I wrote in one every day. When my wife got pregnant recently, I decided to write a journal of my thoughts feelings and musings during the 9 months of pregnancy, and give him the journal on his 18th birthday. There was no doubt what kind of journal I'd be using for such an important undertaking.PROS-Great quality. Constructed well, great materials, great paper quality.-The paper is "soft" if that makes any sense. You really can feel that the quality is on a different level from the everyday paper that you're used to writing on.-Strong binding that lasts throughout many openings and closings, when writing 1-3 pages per day. I've used several different kinds of journals over the years, including many Moleskine knockoffs. Most of them don't fully hold up by the time you finish writing in the journal. This one always has.-Good quality elastic band to keep it closed.-Little folder pocket in the back, why? Who knows. But you can put stuff in there.-Braided "book mark" ribbon. Soft and doesn't fray. If it does, you can re-burn the edge and you're back in business.-Front page has a "In case of loss, please return to:" section. I lost one one time...and someone returned it...so that was nice.CONS-Some knockoffs come with 2 bookmark ribbons. Why you'd need two in a journal...I wouldn't know. But this one only has 1-The "In case of loss, please return to:" section in the front of the book has an additional line for "As a reward: $ ____________. That's always bugged me. First of all, I think people should return these sorts of things out of the kindness of their own heart. Second of all, how can you put a value on something you haven't written yet. First thing you do is put your name and number in there, and that you'll give someone $1000 if they return it to you?? what if you lose it before you've written anything in it?! are you contractually obligated by your reward line?! What if you put $5....and then end up writing in the notebook the calculations that make time travel possible?! Then you lose it...and some dude finds it and decides $5 isn't worth his time...and throws it in the river! ....I'm no historian, but I bet that's happened before. The time travel thing.Just return the notebook people. It probably means something to someone. Be good to one another. Are you still reading this? What were we talking about?....oh yeah. The Moleskine. Buy it. It's good.

The 0.38 is good and doesn't have any bleeding or ghosting but it is too fine a point for my preference so I use the 0.5 and that's a happy compromise. Ghosting is negligible, bleed through non-existent... BUT, to be perfectly, candid, I am almost done with my Moleskine and I won't buy another one. Partly because the paper isn't really conducive to any type of pen other than a rollerball (ugh): I primarily use fountain pens and the Moleskine is horrible for those and the gel pens (I only use G2 when I use a gel pen) leaves little globs of gel on the paper so I do get a lot of smudging. Doesn't happen with my Rhodia books (my preference) or the couple of STM (Scribbles that Matter) books I've tried."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Does this open to lay flat?
