Can you read the words through the yelllow highlighter

Absolutely! They work just like a regular highlighter but draw like a crayon. They are much smoother and there is no missed spots like a regular highlighter.

how long is the actual yellow gel part? Pic indicates only about an inch?

I would say at least 3 inches... didn't wind mine out the whole way in case in wouldn't go back in. :-b The gel wears down fairly quickly but there appears to be quite a bit in each pen.

Is this good for thin bible paper?

I use this in my Bible all the time! It doesn't bleed through but as you know Bible paper is thin so I do feel like you can see it a little if you are on the opposite side of the page. Hope this helps!
