With its roots dating back to 1901, Orient Watch has specialized in the manufacture and growth of mechanical timepieces. Since 1950, Orient has been at the forefront of the production of mechanical watches in Japan. When it comes to watchmaking, Orient does not have an obscure history: Orient has been producing mechanical watches for more than 60 years. It is one of the top three watch manufacturers from Japan and produces 2 million watches per year. Frankly, it may be the biggest watch brand you’ve never heard of. All of Orient’s movements are exclusively made in Japan and no iteration in manufacturing is outsourced. The implicit value of possessing an Orient watch is that the only way to enjoy its tremendous quality is through ownership.Orient prides itself on the premise that its timepieces are a “watchmaker’s watch”-- a no frills mechanical watch that is robust and trustworthy. Our online reputation suggests that an Orient watch is reliable out of the box. This can be attributed to Orient’s undying dedication to mechanical watches. In the eye of the Quartz Revolution in the 1970s, the other top Japanese brands went on to predominantly manufacture quartz, while Orient remained focused on its mechanical movements. And while Orient does produce quartz watches, all movements are supplied by its parent company. So what’s the difference between quartz and mechanical? Despite the obvious difference in moving parts, the short answer is seen in the smooth sweeping second hand of a mechanical watch versus the choppy tick of a quartz movement. As an in-house movement producer, Orient joins a short list of watch companies that actually manufacture their movements in-house and exclusively for their own use. In the industry, it is highly uncommon that a company produces their own movements in-house, and by doing so Orient Watch can ensure that the quality of their wristwatches are held to the highest standards— Orient’s watches have often been lauded for their rich styling, dependability, and tremendous value. No stranger to classic watch design, the Orient Watch has once again created a masterpiece. The Orient Symphony (ER27) is a classic-looking watch, but updated handsomely with a modern finish. A bit bigger than its counterparts, it features a large, easy to read dial that has a pleasing color contrast. The date window adds additional functionality. A great watch to bring to work, or for everyday wear.

Great watch!
This is a great looking watch. It is also well made for the price range. Before purchasing it, I compared it to many different Orient, Citizen, and Seiko watches in the same price range. I am glad I picked this one, and I have gotten multiple compliments on it. I have small wrists, and the crown is the perfect size for me.

It is beautiful but ...
After owning an Apple Watch for 6 months, I have decided that my main daily watch will always be a smartwatch because it can do so much more than just telling time, and you never have to buy and find a jeweler to install the battery. As a "back up" watch, I have decided to get an "automatic watch" because of my distain for battery — there is no way of knowing when the battery will go dead and you have to go to a jeweler to put one in. However once I got this watch and read the instruction, I was reminded of the many shortcomings of a mechanical watch: the general sensitivity to shock and magnetism. This watch is resistant to mild shock, e.g., the instruction says it is OK to wear it to play golf and nothing more strenuous. It will resist momentarily exposure to magnetism, but prolonged exposure is not recommended. The water resistance is stated to be good enough for swimming but not diving. Thus this is really more of a dressy watch, which you probably already know, and one that you need to treat it with some levels of care.If you are buying a watch for its style, look no further, this watch is gorgeous, and well constructed at this price point. One thing I want to point out, which is hard to see on-line: numbers and watch hands are made of shiny slivery metal. And I want to further stress that they are not white, so I was somewhat mis-led by the picture. The problem with this design is that there are times due to light reflection on the watch face and the dark color of your surroundings that it is hard to read the time. Imagine this, if there is something dark over you (in the car, office building, movie theater, etc), the numbers and watch hands will be mostly black, which makes it very hard to see them over a black watch face. Sometimes, reflection can show up on the watch face which also makes it impossible to tell the time. Of course you can solve these problems by turning your watch slightly to get the right angle. Nevertheless, I want a watch that is easy to tell time — a flip of the wrist any time, any where, and I can get the time immediately. Any thing harder than that is to sacrifice function over look. (May be after use, I will eventually get used to this as our eyes adapted ...)UPDATE: I finally returned it because of the mentioned difficulty to read the time when in a dark environment. This happens a lot when I am in the car in a parking garage. I often cannot see anything on the watch face no matter which way I turn my wrist. This is frustrating (when you are late for the appointment) and distracting and dangerous (when driving). There are a lot of discussions in the review for automatic watch on whether the watch is one or two seconds off after a few days. However, what is the point of getting any watch when you can't tell the time when you really need to? They should at least add color to the hr and min hands and anti-reflective coating to the glass.

Watch was a dud
Did not keep accurate time. Lost half an hour for every hour with active wear. Watch also felt cheap and had a completely different feel as my other Orient. Disappointing

Love my orient watches
One of many orient watches I own. They offer such good value for the cost. This one is a little less dressy then others I have but still makes it regularly in my rotation. I can be hard on watches and these are very reasonable price for what you get. The gunmetal finish looks great. The black dial is a little more difficult to read but I don’t mind starring at this beauty for a couple extra seconds. As typical with me band has been changed to a Barton band quick change.

I look at mt watch more then i do my phone.
I have well over 60 watches l, and not those garbage ones that are cheap. More then 60% are swiss automatics and the others are Japan automatics. Let me tell you this, this watch is just as amazing to look at has any other of my swiss watchs. I just had to change the band cause it was really shiny. Looks amazing and keeps great time. The only con, which I myself wouldn't consider it a con but just like to mention is that it's a little loud when the watchbis winding. This is for me who really car about it. For others I'm sure they won't mind. I myself enjoy the sound of my watches winding. Get it you won't regret it.

Great watch! More then expected!
First off, glass back - awesome. Second it was water resistant 50m - wasn't even expecting that! And it's variation is 3 seconds +/- over 2 days? (out of the book I believe that's what it said. Was here a day earlier than expected ship date.Only reason I gave 4 stars is because the second hand won't stop when setting the time.. so can't sync with anything. Also first day wearing it I realized the hard way there is a lot of polish on the outside of the leather, don't let it touch the inside beige, distorted the color pretty strangely...

Fantastic
I just received this today and it came almost a week before the estimated delivery time.It looks wonderful (the pictures do not truly show the beauty of this watch).I can't say much as this watch is just a fantastic watch without many specific "features".What I can say is that the back window where you can see the movement is a fantastic feature.Would recommend very highly.Worth every penny.I will update soon and report the accuracy of this watch, though watch forums state Orient watches as being very, very accurate.

I bought this as a gift for my best man. The watch arrived promptly
I bought this as a gift for my best man.The watch arrived promptly, and was my first time purchasing from Long Island Watches via Amazon. The pictures do not do this timepiece justice.Unfortunately I haven't been able to wear this watch and cannot speak to its accuracy; however, from The Orient Watch Company, I am confident that it will meet every high expectation that I have.Excellent value for the money; a beautiful and classic timepiece.

The watch came exactly as described and packaged in authentic box. Overall a very nice watch and great value for the money. I only wish it said "Water Resistant" instead of " Water Resist" on it.

Great looking formal watch
Looks great with business/business casual clothing. The leather band is very comfortable (but could use a few more holes punched in for smaller wrists).Came with certificate of authenticity.
