Simply works well
I picked this up to use for marking joinery and resawing lines. I took a bit of a gamble as it had no prior reviews, but everything in the same price range seemed to have mediocre reviews at best.Pros:The overall feel is very solid and well made. The fit and finish is right up there with anything less than $75.The blade is sharp enough for consistent marking out of the box, something that can't really be said for some of the others. The micro-adjustment mechanism is very useful in my experiences. I often make markings 1/4" or so apart, so making that with a simple twist of the barrel is a huge advantage for me.There is a poly screw on the reverse side of the first locking screw at the base. It allows you to dial in the amount of pressure against the main rod, thus changing how easy it is to move the head along the rod. It's a really nice touch for anyone that likes tuning their tools to be just right.A minor thing; the knurling on the lock screws and fine adjustment barrel is fantastic. It's a minor detail that I normally only notice when it's done poorly, but this time the knurling is clean and allows an easy grip without tearing apart your fingers. Too often manufacturers will cheap out on this, care was obviously taken here to consider that this is a tool you'll have in your hands dozens of times a day.Cons: I haven't really found any as of yet, it does everything I could ask of it and more.Quick notes: these aren't really cons per-say, just an explanation of what you're not getting compared to similar products. It's missing the graduation marks you get with other gauges. In all reality I use a Starrett combination square for my measurements anyways, but for quick work it would be nice to have them. The screw that holds the blade in place needed a bit of adjustment out of the box. It was screwed down tightly and wouldn't allow the blade to turn. One quick motion with a screwdriver and it's fixed. This is a preference issue, so I can't knock stars for that. The finish could have been better on the brass components. They aren't highly polished by any means, but again I could polish them in just a few minutes if I felt the desire to do so.The fine adjustment mechanism can be tricky to get used to at first. There are times when you have to sort of pre-adjust it to get it dialed in.Overall I'm glad I took a bit of a risk picking this up without much information on it. I wouldn't have gotten it had I not known how easy Amazon makes returns. I handled a lot of the competitive products in store, and found that this was great value for money by comparison. I'm looking forward to keeping this one on the workbench for years to come. The only real consideration as an upgrade for me now would be to look at the Veritas options, but for the money I'm 100% happy with this.

Probably the best marking wheel.
The marking wheel arrived very well packaged. the tool is surprisingly heavy but very easy to use. Beautifully made. The package came with two extra wheels. With the weight of the tool it is very comfortable to use. The micro adjust is very easy to use and very smooth. The tool exceeded my expectations. I can highly recommend the tool.

Best woodworking tool deal on the internet!!!!!
When you get into using hand tools for woodworking the saying "you get what you pay for" definitely applies. The only marking gauge that I've ever seen that operates like this one is the Tite Mark from Glen Drake Toolworks which sells for around $100. Considering the "you get what you pay for" lessons that I've learned, it made me a bit hesitant to buy this tool especially since there were no reviews at the time. Stop reading the review right now and buy this tool if you're looking for a wheel marking gauge! This is the best woodworking tool deal on the internet!I see you've continued reading this review so I'll point out some pro's and con's.Pro:Very easy one handed useVery easy using the micro adjuster to dial it in to the length that you needFits comfortably in your hand (at least in my hand it does)A very well made precision tool for an awesome price (buy two if you can)The micro adjusterCon:The micro adjuster was cranked down pretty tight and real had to twist to get it to loosen up for first time use. Once this is done the micro adjuster is very easy to use.The cutter wheel was dull so I gave it a few laps on my sharpening stone and cuts great nowWhy are you still reading this? You know you want it so go ahead and get it. You'll only regret it if you let this deal slip by!

Pluses and minuses
The fit and finish of this product is in between the cheap and the expensive ones that I own, but closer to the high-end. I love the micro adjust feature, the groove the locking knobs fit into helps but it still needs to be tightened pretty hard in order to hold the cutter in place. For that reason, I wish the knobs were as large as the other two I own. I like the weight and it feels comfortable in my hand. The marking wheel was sharp upon arrival (sharper than the high-end gauge). The face of this product that is used to register against the material to mark is slightly smaller than my cheaper gauge and much smaller than the high-end one. Overall it's a good tool. I will reach for it before the cheaper one now for single lines.

Great tool for an amazing price!
Before buying this, I have never used this type of marking gauge. Normally, I try to buy quality tools. I don't mind spending extra if the tools lasts since you save money and frustration over time. However, I went out on a limb and bought this to try this style marker out. I figured, if I like it, I will buy something like a Veritas or Lie Nielsen in the future. Not only have I found this style of marking gauge to be tremendously useful, the quality is impressive for the price paid. As advertised, it's solid brass and has good heft. I find the blade to be sharp and have no issue cutting fine lines. The adjustment screws could be a bit smoother, but they work well. The plastic screw adjusts the tension and functions well. Maybe the high dollar markers have a bit more fit and finish, but, is it worth three times the price? Not in my opinion. Taytools did a great job with this! I use it every time I'm at the workbench. Buy this and take the money you save and invest it in quality tools that matter like hand planes or saws. Get two and still save. It's always handy to have two marking gauges to save resetting on different marks.
