good learning project
This was a fun project that I used to help teach my teenager how to solder. I suspect it would have been more difficult if I didn't already know how to assemble electronics. The instructions weren't great, but we had a working speaker by the end of the project.

Fun project, infuriating assembly.
I enjoyed putting this together, and the sound quality is alright for the price paid and work put into it, but I must be completely honest… the final assembly of the device, specifically the opaque shell, was one of the most infuriating projects I’ve undertaken in a long time. Plenty of times I thought to give up on assembly, and I could certainly see why some people would give up on the final assembly. But the speaker sounds good!

Fun kit. Big reward for little money!!
ASE Certified Master Technician with 30 years experience. This was a fun kit to make. Not too much soldering though. Easy soldering with nothing too small or difficult. Sounds good for what it is. Connects well every time. Instructions were incorrect on one step. The step to connect the light control to the power supply. I was able to connect it to the switched 5V power and ground circuit at the switch and it works perfect. The screws holding all the panels together were a challenge for my FAT FINGERS but I like a good challenge. My switch was too large and too stiff and cracked the panel when I tried to install. I would heat it up a little to make it pliable or trim the tabs off next time. I liked this so much I ordered another one for my wife. Hers was missing a couple screws and they quickly replaced the missing parts with another kit. I was also able to replace my broken panel out of the replacement kit. This is a great beginner kit. This was her third kit to make and she loved it as well.

It is what it is. And that's not a bad thing, per se.
The media could not be loaded. This project is kind of like the line from the Gin Blossoms' song: If you don't expect too much you might not be let down. The good: It's a fun and pretty simple project that can be completed in a bit more than 2 hours, depending on how fast you work. If you're working with a kid, probably this will be done in a couple sittings. It's cool looking and gives the student a sense of accomplishment when it flashes and lights up.The not-as-good: Yeah, the sound quality is crap, but it's $20 project, not Bowers & Wilkins so what do you expect? Some of the parts don't fit quite right. Like the speaker holes weren't big enough to hold the speaker. That 's just kind of sloppy design IMO. And the instructions might have you scratching your head a bit. (I highly recommend scanning the QR code and downloading the PDF instructions as opposed to the one pager that comes with it.)So, all in all, a fun little way to spend an evening or two, If you have a younger kid, they probbaly won't mind the sound quality either.

Fun little project
For a beginner electronics project this is pretty cool. It’s great for working on those soldering skills and gives you some basic electronics teaching. My only real negative was the very this acrylic used for the structure and the tricky screw and nut assembly. A little bit thicker material would have been nice, it’s 1/16”, 1/8” would have been better. Once you master the screws it ended up being fairly sturdy….. a note to anyone buying this, the rectangular cut out for the switch is a bit too tight, mine cracked at one of the corners, use a nail file to open it up a pinch. The sound quality is pretty good and it makes a good little desktop speaker. Overall, not a bad purchase

The wrong manual was linked
I'm giving this only 1 star because the paper inside the kit had the wrong QR code to the manual. What I got was a similar but totally different set of instructions, making it impossible to complete the kit. However, looking at other reviews, I noticed someone posted a photo with a different QR code (photo attached). That QR code worked! If the correct manual was included, I would rate this kit much higher because once I had the correct instructions it was fun to build.

excellent, fun, overperforms
Possibly the best 24 bucks I've ever spent.I built it in an evening, the hardest part is assembling the case, good soldering practice for anyone who has an idea of how to do it, complete noobs should watch some u tube vids before attempting it, the only problem I found was that the power switch would not fit into its hole, I used a nail file to lengthen the hole in a couple of minutes, the case will crack if abused.Once it's assembled it is quite sturdy and the sound quality and volume are great for the price, surprisingly loud, no real distortion at max volume, obviously not audiophile quality but I was impressed by the sound quality. The bluetooth is also very good, long range, easy connections.I like the lightshow, some people might be able to modify it to suit their taste.I'm thinking about putting a battery in it to make it more portable. If you think you want one buy it, you won't regret it.
