Teach Me: Brie's Submission Paperback – May 19, 2016

This is book one of multiple books about Brie and the community of friends she makes during training to become a submissive for a Dominant. This story does not end in a Happy Ever After until a later novel. You will need to keep reading beyond this book. Usually I groan at the thought of series or serials, but here, I did not mind one bit. I have gone on to read books 2 and 3 as well. This is for you if you love hot, hot, hot, erotica, and love to read about the Dominant/submissive and BDSM lifestyle. I marathon-listened on Audible, completely riveted.WOW, what an education this and subsequent novels provide about the Dominant/submissive relationship. My mind is blown.This novel was a completely new experience for me. Normally, I would complain if main characters in a romance are not sexually exclusive. So why am I not complaining about the heroine, Brie’s, numerous sexual experiences with multiple people? Because the author communicates very well that every sexual encounter has an educational purpose. Each encounter also moves the story along and is never gratuitous. However, I did find the training regime gruelling as it took place after Brie’s day job, and she only had one day off from her training each week. That’s a lot of work and sex and very little down-time for Brie and her classmates. The sexual needs of all the participants in this book are high, and they seem to be constantly aroused. I was astonished that I did not mind one bit. This is because the writing and the narration (on Audible) were so good.Despite any reservations I had, I enjoyed the entire story idea and the romance. Yes, ROMANCE. Brie wanted to belong to one Dominant at the end of her training. If you continue reading, the circumstances surrounding Brie’s graduation in book 3 and her choice of Dominant were suspenseful and then romantic. The fact that I could feel my heart swell for Brie and her choice of Dominant after all her countless sexual experiences, means the author has the ability to draw out my emotions with her writing style. She nailed the subject matter of Dominance/submission with compelling characters, an addictive story-line, and thoroughly arousing sexual situations. But best of all, in all of that, she produced a romance that moved my heart. In this book 1, you get a good idea of where her loyalties lie and she meets many quality people from which to choose a long term partner.Pippa Jayne narrates this series and I loved every moment she spoke into my ears. She effortlessly changed her voice between characters, accents, genders, tone, mood. Sigh, her narration was perfection, as usual.I highly recommend this series starter novel for lovers of BDSM.

I'll start with the negative and move on to the positive. The book is more or less unending sex scenes. If that's okay with you, then you'll adore it. The second issue is an underlying aspect of racism, whether intended or not, the issues of race aren't handled kindly or sensitively enough. The way the ideas of Native American and African American characters are used made me cringe. Though I get the sense it wasn't intended to be pejorative, it still came through in a harmful way.Okay, with those complaints out the way (4 instead of 5 stars)...I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I read the whole thing in a matter of a few days, staying up well into the night. At times I felt like a voyeur, allowed to be a fly on the wall for something I wouldn't otherwise get access to, so it was highly intriguing.I like the way the author used her intelligence to elevate the subject, as if I was also getting an education as I went along with the main character. Most erotic romances I've read recently use first person, I found it a relief to be reading in third and knowing there was a smart narrator hovering around, as the protagonist is young and finding her way. It added an element of processing the psychological aspects of what was happening with more perspective. Though honestly, I found that aspect a bit shallow...a little hard to imagine someone could have so much sex with so many different people, have her body put through much and not have more emotional impacts from it.That being said I admit to really enjoying the ride and ready for more.Definitely want to read further into the series because the first one was so intriguing.(I hope it will focus a bit more on the connection between people, the relationships and the psychological aspects of what she's going through for more balance and pacing.) But I'm hooked for now...into it...let's see where it goes...I'll write more as I go along too...

And read these before the Rise of the Dominants. I read these first and now I'm trying to read the Rise of the Dominants now and it makes me sick to my stomach because Sir just has random sex with anyone at anytime. It makes me feel like he is cheating on Brie and honestly it makes me look at Sir in a negative light. Gag So I suggest reading Rise of the Dominants first.

What a fabulous book! “Teach Me”, by Red Phoenix, is unlike any other book you have ever read. If you love BDSM, or are just curious about it, you will not find a better story out there.The lifestyle of BDSM can be confusing and misunderstood. Reading this book, while totally fictional, gives a huge peek at the beauty that can exist because it is based on reality. Follow Brie Bennett as she moves from her (rather boring) everyday life, into the new world of the Submissive Training Center, courtesy of a business card given to her by Sir Thane Davis. Classes, challenges, new friends, trainers, emotions, and all sorts of eye-opening experiences await her!I found this book breath-taking. The writing is amazing. I was drawn into the story immediately and did not want to put it down. (I may, or may not, have sacrificed sleep to keep reading!) I felt, in many ways, that I was learning right along with Brie at the Submissive Training Center. The world became vibrantly aware of BDSM when a certain Grey book was published. And that series is wonderful. “Teach Me”, by Red Phoenix, is a much more in depth look at the excitement, the energy, the joy that can be found in submission. I know I will reread this story over and over and over. It’s THAT unique and awesome!A sexy and sensual story that will appeal to anyone who likes romance and erotica. I highly recommend “Teach Me” !!!
