My 10 year old son LOVES this series
My 5th grader read the first book in class and went out of his way to ask for the additional books in the series. I got a full, detailed synopsis from my little man- who then offered to loan me the first book, should I want to read it :)Admittedly the storyline seems very engaging and weaves factual history elements into a compelling storyline that resonates with kids… I think I may just read it myself. :)

Love this series!!
My daughter had to read Chains over the summer for her Honors English class. So 8 decided to buy the whole trilogy. I love this searies. It was well written. Blown away by it!! I had a hard time putting it down. As soon as my daughter completed her projects over Chains she was excited to finish the series.I great love that at the beginning of each chapter a quote from the time period was used to make you think and look deeper into what was written in the chapter.

Great Books!
These books are so wonderful! I am a middle school teacher and we read the first book, Chains, for one of our read alouds. My students were totally hooked. This book is a great book to introduce the Revolutionary War and Slavery. This book really helped my students really think about what life was like for a slave and how unfair so many things were. I would totally recommend this series.

Amazing series, Great Historical Information
Great series with good historical accuracy. Group discussion prompts at the end, including additional historical information about the time.

This author writes riveting historical fiction
I became a huge fan of Laurie Halse Anderson as a 7th grader when I read Fever 1793. In college, when I was getting my reading specialist degree we were encouraged to find good books for young adults and I stumbled across Chains. I read the whole book in a sitting and couldn't put it down. I have now purchased this set for my almost 9 year old daughter and I am so excited to read through it with her. This is a great way to learn about some important aspects of American history, slavery, and the revolution. Anderson sheds light on the plight of African Americans during this time period, and the treatment received from both sides (both loyalists and revolutionaries).I will update after we have finished reading through the 2nd and 3rd books.

Fantastic
I cannot put these books down. I am a middle school history teacher and bought them to preview for my students, and expect them to be hard to read as I assumed they would be intended for younger children. I am riveted! I have taught The American Revolution so many times and I feel like I really have a true perspective on it now. Just be careful and read them in the right order as it is hard to tell from the cover, and I read the last one first!
