With a minor modification this holder is excellent for keeping the Garmin InReach safely attached to a backpack
After losing a DeLorme InReach hiking in Yosemite I purchased a new Garmin InReach Explorer and am determined not to lose this thing. Before heading out on an kayaking trips this summer and an extended hiking trip fall I purchased this tether and, based on other reviews, modified the line attaching the holder to the clip that slides onto the Garmin InReach so that if the plastic clasp broke the line would still remain attached. I was a little concerned about the holding strength of the Velcro straps attaching it to my backpack. Happy to report that this little device worked extremely well far exceeding my expectations. Although it appeared to be built a little on the lite side it stayed fully attached to my backpack even when I reached up and just yanked the Garmin away from the holder to look at it. Perfectly and fully functional and best of all, I don’t worry about losing the Garmin.

Great for in reach mini
I bought this to use with my inreach mini and it has worked flawlessly. I have seen questions on weather it works with the mini and it totally does. I have used this backpacking with an Osprey atmos 65 as well as a REI Flash 63 and a camelbak day pack. It has worked well on all of them and I am super happy with it. Yes, the velcro sticks to the lanyard but to me that's not a deal breaker and as others have mentioned a piece of paracord is an easy fix. Well worth the money for both ease of use and protection for such an expensive little device.

Works as intended with a few modifications
I like my Garmin 650t and needed a better way to carry the GPS while backpacking. I moved away from a cell phone based GPS system and back to a dedicated and much larger form factor when compared to the iPhone 5s that I was using. Didn’t like the hanging and bouncing of the carabiner when attached to my backpack strap. This GPS mount has two flaws that needed to be addressed, first the tether cord needs to be cut off and replaced with more durable cordage. I use a thin diameter Amsteel cordage. Second is the Velcro that holds the GPS portion of the mount to the backpack strap mount, the one I received had the Velcro falling off and needed to be re-glued immediately out of the box. When mounted to my Hill Peaple Gear backpack harness this mount is secure with very little movement. The ability to quickly remove and replace the GPS works perfectly while on the move or when showing hiking partners a detail on the GPS. With a couple of modifications this is a nice alternative for GPS carry when compared to pocket carry or the supplied carabiner.

Very good
I have no idea where some of these prior negative reviews are coming from. This thing is great. The velcro is super strong and yes, over time I am sure it will start to have less of a grip, but hey, that's velcro! If you take it on and off that much and use it that much, just buy another one once you wear out the velcro. Duh. The velcro straps that go around a day pack strap are long enough to go all the way around and get a full strip of velcro so there is no risk of it falling off. The only thing I did not like is that on my daypack this makes my GPS unit sit really high, so if I look to my right and down, my chin touches the unit. Also, I noticed that if I am geocaching and looking around in rocks I need to be very careful about getting down flat because the unit can hit the rocks. Other than that, this attachment device is great! The lanyard is not of "poor" material and actually seems to be pretty good. Yes, it would be better to replace the lanyard with 550 paracord material, but again...you could do that. I will probably do that once their lanyard wears out or worries me at all. Also, there were some reviews about not being able to remove the clip easily...not the case....super easy, no issues, and once it is back on you get an audible click and it is solidly in place. To remove you simply pull up the bottom and it releases the attachment and comes right off. Overall, I would purchase this again for sure.

Great to stop the dangle!
This works exactly as expected. My inreach used to dangle around all the time and this has put an end to it!super easy to attach to the pack strap and easy to remove if you need to hold the inreach at any point. Only downside is that stuff sticks to the velcro every so often... can't win em all!

It works
Not much to say considering it just a method to secure a Garmin GPS

Small area of Velcro to hold a heavier device (like the Garmin 86sci) and other problems
This device consists of a plastic clip that attaches to the Garmin device with a 2" by 1" area of Velcro (I'll call this the device clip). The second piece has a 2.5" by 1" piece of Velcro with rubberized backing that has two straps held together with Velcro strips (I'll call this the gear plate). Here are the pros and cons:Pros: The device clips onto the device firmly and seems very secure. The device can then be mounted using the two straps with Velcro closures to any gear or irregular secure surface that you want (backpack, belt, etc.). So it's pretty versatile.Cons: The Velcro on the straps is not very robust and is starting to wear after only one use. The straps go through some slits on the rubberized plate and I don't see how they could be easily replaced. Adjustable straps with a little more length and a buckle clip would be better. The cord that attaches to the Garmin device clip and then to the plate with the straps is not robust. The cord is soft and clings to the Velcro surfaces easily. It often gets in the way when you are trying to reattach the device. After only one use, the cord is already starting to fray. It is a nice safety featrure in case you drop the device, but better material and perhaps a coating would make it less irritating and it would last longer. Finally, the area of Velcro on the device clip and the strap/gear plate is not a very big area. It works, and obviously you don't want it to be much larger, but a little more surface area would make the Garmin device stay attached more securely.Overall, I thought the item was pricey for what you get. Perhaps Garmin will come up with an improved design.
