ASRock Motherboard Motherboards Z270M Extreme4

I had a HP OMEN 870-244 Z170 motherboard. I just up and QUIT would not turn on. I was looking at AsRock's motherboards to put in my outdated Gateway instead I bought the $1300.00 HP. still I ended up with the AsRocks at the end anyways. I would highly recommend the ASROCK Z270 Extreme 4 motherboard it has features that you will like you can add two video cards with the jumper to double your Video output. but you dont really have to it has a great display to play world of war ships, tanks, and airplanes all I can say is it will work better than HP any day. the only thing is I wish they didn't put the round plug for older keyboard or mouse and put another usb port instead.

Works for sli, beware of you have thick GPUs because the fans may scrape unless you can wedge rubber pads between them. Has internet update for bios and will find updates but always fails downloading. Settings were easy to navigate.

This is my 4th ASRock board. I like them for the features and fair prices.I give this board 4 stars.Pros:* My 7700k works at 5GHz* Last generation sound codec Realtek ALC1220* Nice FAN control features. For example, for every cooler you can define how its speed depends on any available temperature sensor.* BIOS has a lot of settings. A very simple mode is loaded by default. However, you have an option to dig into every detail.** For example, BIOS allowed me to connect my old AC'97 audio front panel instead of HD audio** Also I was able to enable PS/2 emulation for my USB mouse and keyboard when they were not recognized by Windows 7 setup.** It is fail-safe boot bios. When I was experimenting with overclocking, the board could detect that it cannot run and loaded with the defaults allowing to fix the failing value.Cons:* It cannot run my Corsair Platinum RAM at its default 3000MHz. However it works at 2933MHz and a bit better timings.* My old ATX case physically blocks 4 of 6 SATA ports (directed to the right instead of up). I think similar cases are rare nowadays.* The price is a bit high ($149.99)* My USB keyboard and mouse were not detected by Windows 7 setup, but I was able to overcome it by enabling PS/2 emulation in BIOS. After installing drivers, Windows 7 started working normally with the keyboard and the mouse.Update:After several days of testing I had to lower CPU speed to 4.8GHz and memory speed to 2633MHz to stabilize the system.

Bought motherboard for I5 sixth gen and I am very pleased I had no problems installing booting right up started playing crysis 1 and 2 don't know how it works with new games old ones seem new lol

Used this board to build a home theater PC (HTPC). I was somewhat hopeful the new ALC1220 would have better 7.1 decoding capabilities from streaming providers such as Netflix and Amazon, but no luck. Even though I can test each speaker individually through Sound Control Panel, audio always gets down converted to 2-channel.There are other issues as well: the sound driver more often than not fails to install HDMI sound for my HTPC receiver, a Harman Kardon AVR-254 when the receiver is turned on. It happened on the prior setup using a NUC PC DC3217IYE, but far less often. This leaves the optical SPDIF connection as an alternative. Unfortunately the optical port does not have bandwidth to support 7.1. It can only go to 5.1 surround. In practice the audio signal ends up down converted to just 2-channel stereo.I was hoping the analog the analog, 8-channel port would provide a path to 7.1. Unfortunately, it won't be. With no signal, a soft but constant, annoying cricket-like chirp can be heard coming out of the board, which makes this venue useless for audio applications. Updating drivers did not make the chirp go away. As noted, with HDMI unreliable, and a noisy analog output, I am left to use the optical port, which does not support 7.1.As another reviewer pointed out, documentation is very scant, including the ALC1220 implementation. Realtek documentation is also scant regarding audio processing, and Realtek can't say much about ASRock implementation decisions on the Z270M Extreme4 baseboard. An example is the procedure for audio jack re-tasking to enable 7.2 surround. There is no explanation on how to achieve this except a one liner on a table showing that it's possible. On this aspect, the user is on his/her own.
