Are there 1,296 inches of tape...or not? Read to find out.
I was down to my last two rolls of tape - hate running out of the stuff, so I got on here to order some more. And then I saw it...the review that would change my entire Monday night...the review that called into question whether there really are 1,296 inches of tape on a roll of Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape. Why had I never thought to challenge this assumption before myself? I'd just been bumbling along like a herded sheep, believing what I was told. I tried desperately to dismiss the thought, shrug it off. But alas, if I was being blinded by some brilliant marketing plan to cheat me out of a few inches of tape, I needed to know, before I hit that add-to-cart button!I knew what I had to do...I would have to conduct a scientific experiment to find out if there were indeed 1,296 inches of tape on a roll of Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape. I would have to sacrifice my last two remaining rolls of tape for this cause, for the good of tape-buying people everywhere. I set about to gather my supplies (see picture 1), and find out once and for all.THE EXPERIMENTStep 1 - Ask a questionAre there really 1,296 inches of tape on a roll of Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape?Step 2 - Do background researchI searched on the Internet for "tape manufacturer gets caught lying about length of tape on tape roll" - because, surely, any incident of this nature would make big, big headlines. After finding nothing about tape manufacturers in the first 11 pages of results, I admittedly felt some relief. I decided it was time to move onto...Step 3 - Construct a hypothesis"If I measure a roll of Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape, it is likely to have the 1,296 inches of tape it claims on the box, due to current lack of evidence stating otherwise."Step 4 - Test with an experimentFor the first roll, I measured out the tape in 36 inch increments, starting just past the little white thingy at the beginning of the roll (see picture 2).For the second roll, I measured out the tape in 59 inch increments (the length of my kitchen table), starting just past the little white thingy.Step 5 - Analyze data and draw conclusionsRoll 1 data: 36 specimens each measuring 36 inches, plus 1 specimen measuring 18 inches, for a total of 1,314 inches of tape. That's 18 inches of bonus tape!Roll 2 data: 22 specimens each measuring 59 inches, plus 1 specimen measuring 3.5 inches, for a total of 1,301.5 inches of tape. That's 5.5 inches of bonus tape! Conclusion: There ARE at least 1,296 inches of tape on a roll of Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape.Step 6 - Communicate resultsSo there you have it, folks. I hope that I have been able to help you breathe a little easier now. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is already thinking about the extra present that can be wrapped with the bonus 11.75 inches (average) of free tape on the roll. And I have to say, Bravo, Highland, Bravo! There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but thanks to companies like you, at least there is free tape!Oh, in case anyone may be doubting whether Highland Invisible Permanent Mending Tape sticks to stuff...it does (see picture 3).

It's tape. The end.
This is tape. It hasn't changed my life, it hasn't solved a huge problem I had. It's tape. It's sticky. It's clear. It's cheap. Is there anything else to say?
