fun and versatile, great field set or beginner set.
A nice selection of intense pigments that support many tones of transparent colour simply by varying the amount of water used. The colours blend to almost infinite hues and even as a beginner they don't look muddy when mixed unless I am incredibly inept or actually choose to mix a deliberately muddy shade. This set includes a decent quality fine brush, well suited to detail and line work, and can be used wet on dry for pinpoint accuracy or wet on wet for dreamy blooms, delicate wahes and artistic effects. This is the first time i've played with watercolours since i was a child, and is so much more fun than I remembered. It is surprising that such tiny pans yield so much colour and cover so much 300gsm paper - whilst barely denting their content! This tiny pallette is the perfect size to put in a pocket and sketch in the field.

Great paints. Fits in my pocket
Excellent colour pans, having not done any painting for 30 years I bought this set to indulge my urge to dabble. If you're going to paint Wimdsor and Newton are the go to makers. This little set is so convenient and the range of colours is great for the kind of work I do.

Good bit of kit - colours on Amazon not accurate
Summary: Good watercolour paints, especially for beginners but the colours advertised on Amazon are not what you will get. Do not get your heart set on certain colours. Make sure to check the colours you get so if you decide to add to your set you won't accidentally have duplicates.I want to add this is not an Amazon issue, this appears to be on Winsor & Newton website too.Colours in advert: Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine, Cerulean Blue Hue, Viridian Hue, Sap Green, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Chinese White.Colours received: Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine, Intense Blue, Viridian, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Chinese White.I've had this palette for a while now, I've finally got to using the colours and they're great. A wonderful selection of colours what will push you to be more colourful with your painting and not rely on blacks to darken the colours. I will add the colour palette I received is a little subdued and less vibrant than I'd have liked in an ideal world but it's a good start! I have since bought additional half pans to add to the collection.WN Cotman watercolours are excellent for beginners. I hadn't touched watercolours for about 13 years and got this small travel set to dip my toes into watercolour again. Lots of fun, compact little case with a tiny travel brush. These are half-pan watercolours so each colour is about 1.9x1.6x1.1 cm.

Really happy
I'm definitely not an artist, and there's a whole story that involves not being allowed to do O-level Art (yes, I am that untalented) and forty years later led to me buying this watercolour set...The colours are bright and colourful, and have a decent amount of pigment. They are easy to mix, and work just as the tutors on YouTube advise that watercolour paints should behave. The case is very sturdy, feels solid, and has space to mix colours in the lid. There is also a travel brush included, which is designed to prevent the bristles being damaged during travel.Despite my previous apparent lack of talent, I have managed a few quite acceptable pictures so far. I don't think any professional artist need worry, but even so, I am pleased with what I have produced. They are definitely a step up from children's paints, and are very reasonably priced. Ideal for teenagers and adult beginners. (It is noted in the leaflet that some of the colours can stain, so perhaps not as good for younger children.)
