I love these pens, nice to hold, write nicely and look great.My old one has been battered over the years so was time for a new one.I love watching people pick it up and try to use it. How lone before they realise they have to pull the pen to make it work??

Sadly my mum died recently- when registering her death the Registrar had one of these pens, which wrote beautifully.I love a good writer- some pens just make your handwriting better somehow and this is one of them! I asked her about it and knew I had to get one.I’m normally a fountain pen fan, but this is perhaps even better. The inks write smoothly and glide effortlessly on the paper. The retractable action is quite cool- had never seen it before.Obviously there are cheaper alternatives and the refills are fairly expensive, but you are paying for quality. Love mine! She had the blue one, and the coating had worn a bit so I went for the silver one as probably less likely to wear off.

Cross Edge Rollerball Gel Pen (Blue Barrel) made by Cross is one beautiful pen which I have to say it writes like a dream. The pen is as smooth and from the first letter, I had written I immediately could understand why so many people love this brand of pen workmanship.The pen mechanism is unique to me personally as I have never seen a pen which opens the writing nib like this one. To operate I simply slide the two ends of the pen (in opposite directions), this manoeuvre actually lengthens the pen which for me makes it more comfortable to hold as it balances better.I love this pen mainly because of the excellent writing experience, as the pen nib simply glides along the page with no disturbances as my writing continues. It is a pleasure to own and write with this pen.Cross Edge Rollerball Gel Pen is a beautiful pen inside and out which makes it very easy for me to recommend. This would make a lovely present for yourself or for someone you know would see the quality radiating out of this great sample of pen workmanship.

Let me state right now. I love pens! I love quality craftsmanship and I spend a lot of my day writing with a pen, in the old fashion way. I grew up with my dad being a calligrapher and so soon appreciated quality mechanisms and a smooth nib. I own many great brands from Mont Blanc to Cross, but have to say, this is a lovely pen to use. The smooth shape and design makes it easy to securely fit in a pocket. Just slide it open for the nib to reveal itself. Then the quality of Cross's refills allow you to write with the roller-ball mechanism so smoothly. The ink is dark and remains sharp even after months on a page. The thickness of the pen is just right with a gradual taper that sits comfortably between thumb and forefinger without any strain, however long you are writing for. I have been so impressed with this pen, particularly at this price point, that I have bought several for friends presents.

Great value for money

I've always preferred to use a rollerball type pen and I've used a few different makes but there's one thing that I find slightly annoying - having to remove a cap before use (I've read that this is because rollerball ink is water based so if you pop it into a pocket with the point out the ink will seep out into your clothes). Cross have designed a rollerball with a retractable refill and a pocket clip that is not usable in writing mode - superb, and another superb for the way they have done it: pull each end of the pen apart and the point comes out, push back together and the point retracts. It all feels built to last as well. To me almost £30 on a pen (including delivery) is a bit over the top (I know you can spend a lot lot more!) but it does feel special - its smooth and gives a solid ink colour. The barrel of the pen is good to hold as well. The supplier: Webster's Pen Shop are brilliant with a quick and professional service.
