My dad has an older tv and uses an ariel to watch free channels, he was having trouble receiving certain channels so we looked into a freeview box that could be used with an ariel and scart lead (not included) we used his old one from video recorderWorks great and my dad now has the free channels to watchGreat value too

I chose this freeview box as it had more stars than other ones on Amazon and it was a good price, less than £25. Easy to set up. Picture quality is excellent, the information that appears on the tv screen is very clear. The remote control though is not easy to use, the numerical buttons are very small and close together. It has to be pointed directly to the receiver to work, waving it around in a nonchalant manner in the general direction won't do. Parts of the instructions are not very clear and the screenshots are very dark and unreadable. The instructions talk about the media centre and youtube, these features are grayed out on my set, I don't see how they can work as there is no facility to connect to a modem. I'm glad it uses a USB stick ( up to 32 Gb ) as all my previous freeview boxes have failed due to a hard drive fault. An external hard drive can be plugged in, up to 1 Tb. There seems to be no facility for deleting recordings, I have to put the USB stick into a computer to do this. So, 4 stars for the money seems like good value.

I'm not sure I understand what other reviewers are complaining about. OK so it's really basic and perhaps not the most user-friendly item in the world but for the price it's excellent. The fact that you have to use a usb stick to record I think is perfectly acceptable for box at this price - especially when you can pick these up so cheaply. It also means after recording you can plug the stick into your laptop or other device and play your recording there.The set up couldn't have been easier - plug in sockets and aerial, set language and off it went. All channels installed without any problems.The remote worked fine - although I don't think there's much range with it - and the batteries for that were included.I had a go at recording a program onto my usb stick and that worked perfectly.All I really wanted was a Freeview box for an old TV - that would have cost about £20 anyway. The fact that I can record programs is an added bonus. The last time I bought a Freeview recorder I paid £200+ for it. This unit might not be in quite the same league as that but £20 what's not to like?

Unless you are from the dark ages and still using old tech this is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!! Going straight back and a up to date box has been ordered. Not happy with this product.

Basic device, can only scroll through epg one at a time and it changes channel as you do ☹️Purchased 5/02/25 and cheap remote on/off and mute buttons have stopped working. Others are very sensitive and repeat numbers. Otherwise, picture is good quality, plenty freeview channels. Using with old LG tv that has stopped picking up a lot of freeview channels. Very basic , but does what it says on box.Not even tried to record, or connect to wifi, don't need it.

I’m so glad I purchased this. The last one I got was from some where else, and it was faulty. I wired it up and installed the the software no problem, better and faster than any man! I even read the instructions after. I am so proud of my work, I keep pacing around it, I nearly keeled over with excitement. It is such a cute little device, that lights up. I’m not sending this back, this is my baby! I have set it up just in time for Xmas and New Years. Yippee!

Just to be clear if you're in the UK this box may struggle to pick up routers so be prepared to manually enter all of your IP, DHCP, SUBNET MASK and GATEWAY information.
