How big are the letters?

I would guess the pads are slightly less than an inch so the actual letters a little less than that, only saw the set at Christmas. We were disappointed with the quality of the ink pads otherwise thought it a lovely stamping set

How do you renew the ink when it finishes?

You can use the Self-Inking Stamp Ink Refill, They are sold in all Office Products stores.
