Due to the design of our staircase I was delighted to find this product which promised to provide a gated solution using just one wall.Unfortunately upon installation by a qualified handyman, we quickly realised this gate just does not work.The locking mechanism is virtually non existent so my 1 year old is able to pull at the gate, open it well past the locked position and wonder straight through with very little effort.Examining further I can see that half of the locking spindle is made from metal and the adjoining part is plastic. Therefore the plastic quickly wears, slips & becomes mis-shaped and the locking mechism is totally compromised. For me this all happened within a hour of installation so it's been an absolute waste of time and effort for us.This product is defective and needs to go back to the drawing board to be totally redesigned before being sold as a single wall solution. Great idea. Poor product.

This is a really neat looking gate which I'm using to block off a fairly wide hallway to prevent our cat escaping out of the front door. The opening mechanism is easy to use one handed but secure enough that it confused my daughter's boyfriend, so it should also be toddler proof. One of the bolts that is used to secure the gates to the desired width sheared when I installed the gate (quite possibly through me over-tightening it). The sellers sent a replacement immediately. I really like this product and the customer service.

I wanted the gate for the top of my stairs with no trip hazard for when my grandchildren visit. Mounting on one side only meant I could screw it to the bannister post and did not have to damage the wallpaper. When it is no longer needed I only have six holes to fill with a quick coat of paint. Not difficult to fit but you must make sure that the brackets are level and the right distance apart. The gate locks in three positions, fully open both ways and across the stairs, and to unlock it you have to lift. There is very little leeway for any error in the spacing between the mounting brackets, get it wrong and you would not be able to lift the gate. All that said, it has does the job I bought it for. Easy to open with one hand, and locks in position automatically as you swing it shut. One toddler and one crawler have both tested it and both unable to open it.
